the d60 is a good camera, much like anything else is going to come down to personal preference. i prefer canon after shooting nikon for a good amount of time.

it's going to come down to what you like, of course any camera in the range is going to be good, i'd just stay away from olympus and pentax.

not compatible, small sensor, you can get a better camera for just about the same or a lil more.

not compatible with what? or are you speaking on the lens issue...

you can get a better rebel for the same or more... but again it's going to come down to personal preference, i would get a used xti or xsi...

i looked locally here in charlotte and you can get a used but mint xsi for 550 with extras...

Buy a used FE2 and some lenses....

I'm not going to say stay away from the cheaper DSLRs because I started with a Rebel 300D but get one with the plans on trashing it within the next year and moving on to something bigger. However I'm really starting to not like DSLRs.. I think I'm going to sell my D90, my DX lenses and buy an FE2 and a scanner and just start scanning negatives.

yeah have fun with that expense... 8 dollars a roll for slide film, 10 dollars a roll to get it processed, and 15 if you want them to do the scanning, it's like 25 at hi res... 33 dollars a roll of film vs taking as many pictures as you want on a memory card... it may be cheaper as a starting point but it will get expensive.

yes exactly, the fact that they will not auto focus with anything but dx glass. DX glass is expensive and in some cases not as good as nikon's old D or G lens, plus they have not covered every focal length in DX lenes yet. Another thing is if you ever go full frame or if you want to shoot film you cant use your dx lenes, they will viginette.

I have a d60 also and its a perfect camera, its compact compared to the d90 with almost all the same features which is perfect for someone that wants just some good pictures

Compact compared to a D90? If you think the D90 is big I'd love to hear your opinions on the 1D.

canon does decent over 800, though not as good as the newest generation nikons but thats just technology.
btw nikon=canon=nikon=canon
theyre both good camera brands

but id steer away from the d60/40 if your just getting into it just because of the autofocus confusion
d80s are cheap nowadays and if i learned all i know on one it cant be too hard :)

dont you shoot canon
Used to. I still miss my 1DmkII. D90 is so much better for my concert photography though. Now I'm trying to get into shooting film. My first try turned out to be a disaster. It's a learning process though.. My only experience with film was with pinhole cameras..

it's strange that people are switching from digital to film now as an artistic choice lol... i would never shoot film again :-\.

as for using only dx lenses that's a false statement. you need an AF-S lens which are not all expensive and definitely do cover the entire spectrum of nikkor products...

dx glass isn't even the good glass it just specifies that it's made for the digital sensor. ED is nikkor's good glass prior to that was D glass. Don't even talk about G series lenses as they are not better than anything made today, they were the economy grade glass that was horrid.

and lumpy, CANON > Nikon is an ehh statement. it always comes down to preference, it's like Ford vs GM... i prefer ford when it comes to my trucks and i prefer canon when it comes to my cameras.

Here's why I went to Nikon..

Nikon D90 ISO 6400 in a shot with similar lighting

The noise is about the same, hell here's a shot with less light at 6400

Why am I shooting with film? Cause I'm getting tired of crop cameras and can't afford a D700.

Koopa, can the crop not be overcome with wider lenses?

Curious about this...

yeah i can see in that instance that the nikon did way better. they have always been better in low light, but i like the resolution you get from a canon at 100iso vs the nikon at 100iso... the color rendition seems better on my canon too than my d70.
