View Full Version : Jumpy speedo, WTF?!

So, speedometer jumps around whenever I'm more than about 70% throttle AND RPM's higher than about 5k. Annoying as fuck. Put in known good gauge cluster, still does it. Put in known good VSS, still does it. All grounds that I can find are grounded. WTF?! Any ideas?

Oh, it's a 95 DX hatch with a B16A2 swap.

might be a problem in the diff. the gear on the diff might be lose. had this happen on a tranny before

is the throttle cable jumping in and out were it connects into the tranny?

i have had this happen a while back on my teg. replaced the VSS and nothing helped. it turned out to be be the wires to the VSS. they looked fine but one was just a little bit bad. would come in and out of the connector just enough.

check it.

how would a dizzy fix a jumping speedo. it has nothing to do with the speed of the car. it has no clue what gear you are in or anything. it would fix a jumping tach and thats it.

vss is a vehicle speed sensor

My car does the same thing, I was dropping the tranny and ripped the damn cable, lol. I replaced it with one from a junk yard and gained this problem hahahah. I checked the connections at both the gauge cluster and the vss so my only geuss would be the speedo cable itself?? It is annoying as hell but I cope....

try changing out ur dizzy like they said since it has a speed sensor in it also so does the gauge custer and the main vss on the tranny itself

try changing out ur dizzy like they said since it has a speed sensor in it also so does the gauge custer and the main vss on the tranny itels

it has nothing to do with the cluster. it only knows the speed of the motor.

the cluster is wired direct to the VSS. its somewhere between the wiring to the vss and the connectors.

well true he did say he replaced the cluster and the main vss why shudnt he just try the dizzy since it has a vss in it and i know it is for the tach but if it fucks up it will make the speedo jump it happend in my hatch a new dizzy fixd it and the distributor speed sensor if it goes bad will cause the rpms to jump around cause the dzzy might be cutting in and out probabaly the same reason as advert said but im just saying if that doesnt work check the distributor it self

X2 same exact shit happened to me. I soldered on a new connecter head and BAM! no problem anymore, i also put some silicone down where the wires go into it, to help prevent water from getting down there again. :tits: GL man

Kyle, obv you have way too much torque in that b16 and are breaking traction. I warned you that they were hella torquey but you didn't listen sir.
