we have a HD receiver (box), but i guess our actually satellite is still non-HD...can i just buy a HD dish somewhere and install it myself or do i have to call/pay direct t.v. to do it?

he was a contractor for Direct.

I work for Dish
Our dishes people can buy and try to point but its a pain in the ass if you don't know where to look for signal.

but lets say if you had dish and you got it pointed, there is still a test called "check switch" in the installation set up area to even get the receiver to realize it has a new dish up.

Idk if direct is same way

Good luck though.

I would just call them man. Just had this done to my new place and it seemed like a Pain to put it on.

You had someone install for you or you did it yourself?

It also depends on how much experience the tech has.

With proper equipment installing is pretty easy.

i have the hd dish.. but i sold all of my equipment already.. =)
