Considering money is not an issue, I would like to get a top notch cell phone and would like some more input to ad to my research.

So all over the internet there is a ton of controversy over the new (Iphone Killer) HTC-HD2. Today I decided to start getting opinions from anyone who knows current technology such as tech forum boards, cell phone sales guys at the mall, and both Iphone and HTC users. Even though T-Mobile is the only one carrying the new HD2, every cell provider at the mall (except At&t iPhone salesmen) alll said the HD2 is the best phone on the market.

The only negative reviews I have found are two issues. One being that the HD2 has an older 6.5 Windows OS which can lock up like any computer and have to be turned off and then back on. There are also obviously a little less applications able to be used on HD2 phones that have not been unlocked. The unlocked HD2 is unlimited to everything available, so I am told. Locking up is rare and most users report this never happening, however I have heard on several forum boards that the more applications downloaded the more likely that this may occasionally happen on HD2's that are not unlocked, just like the lag from Iphones with too many applications taking up memory.
The second issue some people have with the HD2 phone is the size. It is slightly larger than an Iphone though slimmer design. Personally I like the larger phone because it has a nice larger screen, currently the largest duel point touch screen available, and with way better graphics than any phone on the market, including Iphone.

Here guys, check out this video.
http://www.videomeli.com/video/QenAt6sWcdM/iphone-3gs-vs-htc-hd2.html

I am trying to find out if anyone else has experienced any issues with this phone before I decide to buy one. I really like the iphone as well and use one every day that my lady owns but I am still unsure if the HD2 or Iphone is going to be the better choice. Thanks for your input guys.

Please dont post info about phones not related to these two. Thanks

Iphone is not that heavy, there are tons of apps that you can use for what ever busines you need it for, you can play bejeweled on it lol. never been a fan of windows and I think the HTC is only for t-mobile. Iphone is super fast for everything. one thing that does suck on the iphone is the camara

A lot of my developer friends that switched from Droid software to this new HTC have been disappointed with the stability. But if the potential is there (which it is) then bug fixes will surely come and this phone should leave the iPhone in the dust.

But you also have to remember that Apple is releasing the new 4.0 OS for the Iphone, Ipod touch, and Ipad over the summer. From would i read about it, it basically has better options such as Multitasking and such that everyone has been bitching about foreverrr that the Iphone doesnt have now.

I say Iphone ftw if you don't mind waiting for the new iphone hardware aswell as the new operating system. But even if you by a 3gs now, you could still switch to the new operating system when it comes out.

Nexus One has the same 1ghz processor as the HD2, but you get android instead of windows. Way better. And from what I understand, the HD2 doesn't support 3g unless you're on t-mobile. If you don't like android, then settle for the iphone instead of the HD2.

I've used plenty of Windows OS phones. They all sucked ass. Always locking up and freezing the screen. Apps always running in the background slowing the phone down unless you manually close them all out.

I watched the vid. So the HTC boasts a couple better specs, bigger screen, higher resolution, faster processor and 2 more megapixels and a flash......BUT......its still Windows OS and IMO that's reason enough for me to not want one.

I'm an iPhone user with the 3GS and am on my second phone, first I had the reg 3g but upgraded to 3gs as soon as it came out and as soon as a new iPhone comes out I'll buy it right away too, I don't care how much it costs because you can always sell your iPhone on craigslist for exactly what you paid for it. It has been the best cell phone experience I've ever had. Period. Never has any problems, ALWAYS runs fast, never locks up. The iPhone touch screen will never be beaten, no phone works as smooth and accurate. Apple will always be on top of the game with the iPhone. They are always releasing better versions of the phone and offering OS upgrades which always make improvements.

I would wait until WinMo7 is out before you go into the Windows Mobile part of the smartphone market. The software just isn't good at all, and why buy a device when the software that lets you interact with it is shit?

That having been said, I love my iPhone 3GS, but I researched the shit out of phones before I got it. I'm talking mapping network coverage for everywhere I am at in multiple scenarios, and AT&T provided the best service, in my area, for my needs. That's the real thing to consider: will a network provide what you need, or say it will in an advertisement? For me AT&T does so I went that route and I couldn't be happier

I don't know if it would be the same software... But I have the HTC Droid Eris and I love it. I can get mostly the same apps as the iphone and they are free. With any new phone there is going to be problems, thats why you have to make sure you check for software updates and stuff..

Anyone who thinks a phone this generation is going to leave the product of the most iconic pop culture brand probably in our lifetime "in the dust" is smoking crack.

If you want a "tech(y)" phone that will lose its luster and developer support in 1 year maybe 2 get the HTC, If you want a phone with a solid OS that harnesses limitless potential in terms of usability and fun factor and will remain viable for years to come...get the Iphone.

WOW,
This is a lot of input so thank you so much guys. I really only see one factor to address that you have all mentioned in one way or another, Reliability! Reliability comes from the a user friendly phone with well built hardware. So lets be real with what we do know, Iphone is really user friendly software. However what people do not usually know is that over 90% of all cell phone Hardware have been made for years at a designing factory in Taiwan at High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC) and the hardware designs sold to tons of cell phone hardware companies who put there own name on there hardware. This being said I can not dispute the tons of research telling me HTC is, and has been at the top of cell phone hardware technology and will always stay there, especially with all the $$ there bringing in buying out competitors.

Get this guys, as some of you gurus know already, HTC is launching its EVO next Month. This addresses every post listed above with the common concerns of using MS OS. The New HTC EVO is the HD2 but updated with Android. In addition to this it will be the 1st 4G Phone to hit the market in America. It will only be available through Sprint to start out but dont hold your breath because it gets better. HTC is also coming out with there own new OS. Tech Gurus jump in anytime. This is going to be a huge wake up call. I have been diligently researching Mobiles all day for a week now and just had a pretty intense crash course in a industry new to me. With that said I am still learning but it seems nearly every forum board, including Ipohne users all agree that HTC is currently and eventually going to dominate the market. In addition to the new cameras and exciting new hardware and all to come from HTC, Apple will only be coming out with a software update. In addition to this Apple phones that are unlocked can only operate at 2G on a 3G network such as my Tmobile service.

Dont get me wrong guys, I have a Apple iPhone 3GS 32G sitting right here I use all day long. It is my GF phone but I use it a lot and I love it just as much as any iphone owner. But there are a lot of concerns I have and love all the input I am getting here. There is a lot to learn and I am sure alot of my research is debatable from both sides. I just need input into a new industry. I have always had my $20 Cricket phone with an $35 unlimited plan while in AZ because it was simply the very best service plan for obvious reasons, no dropped or lost calls in 5 years, and never even lost service anywhere in 5 years, even in the mountains around the state. But I travel now and its not available everywhere.

I guess the next step is either wait to see how the iphone update does or get with the plan and get a HTC. I found very few cell tech forums in support of keeping or buying a new Iphone with all the new advances in HTC. Thanks for all the input. I would like as much input as possible before buying something so expensive.

htc evo is going to be bad ass. but believe its going to be very long and i mean very long while before anyone takes the belt from iphone. the iphone software updates eliminate completely switching out your phone like other phone right now. and as far as sprints 4g thats a complete joke. i love the 10x faster then 3g they advertise. the future of cell phones is going to be LTE and verizon is going to fall on its face during the transition. sprint is going to have to make the switch to make it,sooner or later

http://www.handcellphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/sprint-htc-evo-4g.jpg

Sprint together with HTC launched HTC EVO 4G, the world’s first 3G /4G Android phone, in United States. The HTC EVO 4G is a powerful smartphone that has a lot of processing power. It features a 1GHz Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processor, enough to run any app in Android marketplace. Thanks to 4G network which is 10 times faster than 3G, HTC EVo’s upload speed is fast enough to allow users to post high-definition videos to YouTube or Facebook instantly. One of the interesting features of the phone is its built-in mobile hotspot functionality that allows up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices to share the 4G experience.

The HTC EVO 4G features a 4.3-inch touch screen with pinch-to-zoom support, a 8-megapixel digital camera auto-focus camera with HD-capable video camcorder and a forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video conferencing. The selling price is not determined yet.

“HTC and Sprint have a strong history of working together to bring consumers technologies and advancements that make their lives easier,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC. “We believe that the HTC EVO 4G represents the best of Sprint and the best of HTC working together to bring an unmatched device to the U.S. This combination of HTC and Sprint innovation will allow people to do even more while on the go, faster than ever on the Sprint 4G network.”

“Sprint continues to lead the 4G revolution as we introduce HTC EVO 4G to give our customers an experience that is unlike anything available in wireless to date,” said Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO. “Not only is this feature-rich device incredible on our Sprint 3G network, but Sprint 4G speeds will take mobile multimedia, including live video streaming, gaming and picture downloads, to a whole new level.”

Sprint and HTC have come together to propel the Android platform into the 4G world with the introduction of HTC EVO 4G,” said Andy Rubin, vice president, mobile platforms at Google. “The Android platform was developed to give people unmatched mobile connectivity to the Internet. By combining this vision with the promise of Sprint’s first-to-market 4G technology, HTC EVO 4G makes accessing thousands of applications from Android Market, using Google™ services like Google Goggles, Google Earth™ and the all-new Gesture Search, or simply browsing the Web faster, easier and more enjoyable than ever before.”

The HTC Evo does look nice on paper. Guess we'll have to see how it operates in the real world and how usability is on it.

Regarding the 4G network, we'll see how that plays out. Doesn't seem like that is a big enough concern to me yet to make me switch carriers/phones. 3G is good/fast enough and works great. I'm sure it till take plenty of years for the 4G network to really kick off.

I can't wait for iPhone's OS 4. HTC still is playing catch up to the usability of the iPhone along with everyone else. Sure, other phones might have a better camera or more ram/processor or a slightly bigger screen with a lil more resolution, but as always Apple products run soooooooo much smoother and faster even with slower "specs".

WORD

Yesterday I bought the HTC HD2. I was sort of leaning in that direction the last 2 days and I am glad I chose to buy one now. I have to say that I really like the Microsoft software a LOT more than iphone, plus I can run multiple applications all at once. I just couldn't pass up the low balled price of $385 and getting the seller guy to top off my gas tank at $16.94 just for having me drive to him (26 miles round trip). Keep in mind that I have seen these for as much as $650 in the Seattle area on craigslist but if you look hard you can get a MINT used one, or a New in box one for around $450 or so average if you call the second after the ad comes out. I called all day for 3 days strait and every single ad was sold. Another thing to keep in mind when buying one is how to get our hustle on :) I purchased a completely unlimited date/phone plan from t-mobile for only $79/mo with no contract and no phone. When a customer purchases a contract plan, they get to purchase the HD2 for only $150. So to get your hustle on just leave your business card or name and number with one of the sales guys at the kiosk. Tell the sales kid that you will give him $20 bucks if he can talk a customer into selling the phone for more than they paid for it with there contract. Now they can keep using there current phone if they have one or the customer can buy a cheaper one, all while making some profit from selling there $150 HTC to you. Then of course the sales guy is going to try to get the customer to sell the phone to you as cheap as he can so he can get his $20 bucks because he knows you offered the same deal to several other salesmen at other T-mobile stores. Its all about the hustle and creating a sense of urgency for the sales guy to find you the phone if he wants to get paid. Its fun getting others to work for your benefit (gosh I love sales tact), and he still gets his $20 for getting you the cheapest HD2 you will find anywhere. Its a win for all three of you guys :)

My Personal Review of the HTC-HD2

Cons-
-Camera Hardware sticks out like a sore thumb sooo far that the protective case does nothing for protecting the camera lens. The phones camera sits/drags/scrapes on the table while sitting facing up. I am sure this will cause scratching or damage to the camera if your not careful. In fact the only two cheap used HD2's on Seattle's Craigslist were cheap because they had broken cameras. Worst part of the phone IMO.
-There is a certain hate some Android and Apple usesr have against MS software, because it can be sluggish with lots of apps running at the same time, so I am told in reviews but have not experienced myself as of yet. Going to try to not overwork the touchy MS software mgt.
-Display Tilt is only available 2 directions, not all four like an iphone, just one regular view and one sideways view and only on one side of the phone, and some apps only allow regular view. Unfortunately this is frustrating to not have keyboards sideways in some apps because its tight space learning the lil keyboard with the phone strait up. Not an issue at all, just a lil different than my Lady's iphone I am so used to.
-No Hard Drive, too many apps and data and your def going to use the SD card slot which ads to the cost of the phone but does allow for an unlimited amount of removable memory storage.
-Battery life sucks really bad. Today I intentionally left it running all programs with backlight on brightest and the radio app blasting all day in the yard, battery died in 6hrs which is still longer than the specs but the internet and phone were disabled with no sim card. There is a new bigger battery but its bulky and again, ads to the cost of the phone if you want it.

Pro's -
-720p Video support and the 480x800 Resolution on a phone was completely outstanding to see on a large 4.3" screen. LCD TV quality for sure! In addition to this I can just plug this phone into my TV to watch movies from my Blockbuster or Net Flix applications, or even tune into local TV
-Its not slow at all no matter how many application are running, 1024MHz Processor, 512MB ROM/448 RAM. I have not experienced the MS errors or freezing issues at all so one can only assume this issue spoken about is most likely from running downloaded apps all at once.
-Micro SD Expandable Memory Slot. I like this because I can use my general 32GB Micro SD Card for most anything all day. In addition to that I have the option to use a different cards for specific applications or data that I want on separate memory cards.
-Camera. Having zoom features is a Plus, 5 mega pixel is much better than 95% of any phones out there, and auto focus, video, & camera apps are quality and very user friendly. The video time and amount of pictures you take is pretty much unlimited, to the max of your storage cards.
-Duel LED Flash Light and camera flash LED's are extremely bright (100X better than my Army Maglight) and adjustable brightness levels are a helpful feature. I needed a flashlight twice today working in the yard late and I am totally shocked how damm bright that thing is.
-Speaker sound will go really loud. I like this feature on speaker phone/Music. Headphone are really Christal clear too.
-2 Browsers are great, Opera is the best browser with all its features and it also comes with Explorer too with flash for videos etc.
-Lastly I liked the fact that is so dang thin and more easy to handle than I thought. The phone is really well balanced and comfortable feel.
-Windows Mobile 7 is coming out really soon, addressing small issues and making the phone more user friendly by adding some new fun features.

SO OVER ALL THIS PHONE REALLY KICKS ASS

the the Smart for area. I have had about three blackberrys. Treo. MDA, and all three Iphones. I prefer the Iphone over every other phone i have had. Mostly because of the interface and usability not mention ever other smart phone i have had, had to be returned for some reason or another and the only issues i had with any of my iphones was i got a line of stuck pixels on the screen. My vote will be for the New iphone that i think will be out in like June or July...

Just so you know the iphone 3gs can multitask. Glad you like the phone though, thats the most important thing in the end.

The "new" Iphone seems like it's going backwards as far as the design. I heard the OS is gonna be pretty cool...
