I've been looking into buying an S2000 and I have come across a number of really nice ones that are turbo'd making 300+ whp with an upgraded fuel system and a good tune but a completely stock block. How reliable is this? I'd really like to pick one up but I don't want to drop $15k and have the engine blow up a month later. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

yea they can handle boost just not crazy amounts like 15lbs or higher but on a stock motor for sure 5-10lbs of boost which is good but still gotta up grade the fuel system a little and yea.

This is depending on what size turbo you use....

The f20c has been known to make a ton of power stock, but how short would you like your fuse?
I would say 375-400whp tuned would be ok... and thats about all your gonna get out of 91 gas.

A great street turbo would be a gt3076 at like 15 pounds.

S2k can handle tons of boost for a stock block. It has forged internals which makes it very easy to throw boost at and make very respectable power. Its not uncommon to see people making between400-600 hp. Some guys have even pushed it a bit a squezzed out around 720 ish. Headgasket and some head studs and your good to go

quoted for the truth! :)

Once I pay my car off im boosting mine. The engines are built from the factory. Check out www.s2ki.com and www.scienceofspeed.com <--- they make bolt on boost ;) (literally, no oil lines or anything).

We made 530whp / 370tq on a 100% stock long block for well over a complete race season on e85. Id say easily 2000 track miles which would equate to god knows how many street miles. Motor looked great when torn down other than the fact the rings were going. This was on a 3076r 18-21 psi tuned by UMS and our turbo kit.

it was actually after seeing your car that i realized damn, if AFI's car can handle 2000 hard driven miles with 530WHP, with a proper tune S2k's can definitely handle 350-450 HP daily for god knows how long lol.

I have seen many many people boost their S and to this day I personally don't know anyone that has had problems with reasonable power (350-450 on street fuel). But people with S2000's usually spend a good amount of money and do shit first the right time. I dont see people asking if they can use their OEM injectors, if an FMU will work, if they really need a tune.... If they need ventilation, If they should buy quality parts etc.

Thanks to all your replies, I think I just might pick one up that has a nice turbo setup. CAN'T WAIT!

if your shooting North of 300. Replace the clutch (oem sucks) and you will probably replace the diff eventually. motor should be strong tho as long as its tuned right.

I'm saving for boost right now! I can't wait to boost mine. I'm just looking for 300-320whp. Hopefully I dont feel the need to go any higher.

Everyone can check out Mase Enginnering out of Florida. He has put together a really nice kit with an AEM EMS, injectors etc.

here is a link with pix of the whole set up and description.

Come up too performance one and talk to shawn he drives a ef but he used to build the f22/accords and he is one of the best tuners I've seen if u have any questions he can help u out

You know they are talking about the f20/f22c not the f22a/b...

Look up t1racing I believe they are the ones that did a 750whp street driven car. It was bolt on kit headstuds and gasket and will upgrade... and I love the exhaust threw the fender on it. Ps it beat a gsxr1000

I think you are referring to the "s2k from hell" but yeah that fucker was making crazy power numbers on a stock motor tranny and rear end, risky but nice none the less

you guys realize that the cars making the big HP #s on stock motors are running race gas right?

also most of the cars making 400 on pump are making it on 93-94octane back east? the shitty gas we have here in AZ wont support much more than 8-10psi on a F20/F22c...you can do more but it is only a matter of time before the car goes boom

a realistic pump gas number in AZ is 320-350 depending on whether it is a F20c or F22c...also manifold design is huge factor...log manifold on a S2000 means VTEC @ 6-7000 rpm...where a good longer runner SS manifold will allow much lower VTEC and way better efficiency on the top end

What about e85? Isnt that like 110 or something.

the AFI S2000 ran on E85 for quite some time...making upwards of 500 whp.....

The UMS Evo Runs on E85.....it makes 570-600

E85 is a great race gas substitute...however it is closer to 105 octane than 110...

Isn't e85 really inconsistent? Making that much hp wouldn't it be wise to just run race fuel?

Yea, but race gas is not really an option for day to day driving(for most of us)

I have seen cars tuned for e85 go down to e70, or even in lower in some cases, with no issues.

This is going to be tune dependent obviously. If you are tuned to the ragged edge on e85, and you run e56, you might be in for some trouble. But you can always make adjustments(ie. turn down the boost)

I'd probably have an e70 map, and e85 map just for my own peace of mind.

FWIW you can always pick up one of these to atleast know what you have in the tank.

True I guess in that case...

It just sounds dumb to hear people say or brag on how much hp the make on e85, its like trying to go on a diet but still eating shit food.

I have a honda guy that brags about 600+ on e85 and I just laugh. Spend all that money on a nice motor and cheap out on the fuel!!! Haha its all good though...

Shit I'd use it low hp if it was more available.
