anyone else a rookie tig welder like myself? i figured i didnt wanna post in other people fab threads with my pics with questions so ill just do it here
like anything else i know Tig takes plenty of seat time, tonight i took a shot at welding aluminum for the first time. not to bad in my opinion. i love the even look of welds when its a consistent same size bead all the way down. ultimately i wanna achieve that.
anyways, any tips or good methods would be great, i find it to help when i manually pulse. i dont know if thats bad?anyways below is a few pics from tonight. keep in mind its my first time ever welding aluminum.lol

Some SS coolant pipes and charge pipes for a Detroit S60. This is the first time i welded stainless. I swear I burned several sets of not so pretty gray welds before I was even getting somewhat devent results.

BTW AMM mike, you had welded some fuel and methanol tanks for our duramax a while back. You work serves as constant inspiration for me to keep practicing. You are seriously bad ass!

funny i just got off the phone with jason 5 mins ago, i guess im gonna be doing some stuff for a mustang his class is putting together now also. i was gonna say hey thats a 02+ 60 (egr cold delivery pipe gve it away) u made that piping for but u said it above the pic. im guessing u know im a detroit tech??? stainless and aluminum look ok, some people can pick it up in no time and some take a while to get good at it, im one of those people that took a while. anyways keep practicing and it'll come to u.
also, the caps i put on those tanks wernt all that great, those were "fuck i dont care what this looks like cause i want to go to bed" welds. jason came over at like 10:00 that night to get those done and i had to get up for work at 6:00 am.

Lol, yeah, Jason said you worked with him before at Williams. Never really expected to see you on here because hetold me you were mainly into Neons. Man if those were your sleepy welds then holy hell. I am still trying to get the hang of TIG but like you said, takes practice. Hopefully I will be picking up a Dynasty 200dx for home use soon. Yeah he is building that stang for that TV show. You'll have to give him some shit for being a big tv star now lol.

nice bead RC, now start doing pipes, cause flat welds are pretty easy when it comes to aluminum.

Are you taking classes somewhere? I only ask because I am curious about if you would recommend it or not and how much it cost. Looking awesome man.yeah gcc. i would recommend it. its like 300. 1 day a week. 4 hours a class. basically 16 classes of seat time. if you dont own a welder. its a perfect class to learn. its hard to find people who will just let you sit at there welder and learn using there gas.
looks good OP, pulsed yeah?
mikeno pulse.

i dont see much of a benefit of pulsing with aluminum unless you need to get it super hot.

if i need to pulse i just work the pedal, other then that the pulse isnt on when i do aluminum.

You know you can walk across the afghan parking lot and use my welder, RC.. I'll make you refill the argon tank, but thats a lot cheaper than buying a welder! :)

Or just find a gnar deal on a tig welder that is far nicer than anything you need, that's what I did. :) But at least I won't have to buy or put money into one again, hopefully ever!
