Thanks Stephen - great job on almost knockin' off Josh your first time out in ST!

cgibson - hope it's done soon. We haven't seen a CRX autocrossing in Phx for years. One of the best autocross cars on the planet too...go figure.

SlowCivicHmm - you will meet new friends. Didn't get to meet Aaron and Doug the last couple of times. I'll make a point of it next time. Their EG is QUICK!

I want to go to one of these, never been. But that is the day my gf is leaving for deployment. Don't think I can make this one. What is the cost normally? And where would my car fit in, it is a stock k24 bottom end with a stock k20 top end, some suspension, stock si brakes, on street tires, and full interior?

Cost is $30 for non-members if you pre-register. All the costs are here ( Click Me (http://www.azsolo.com/events-info/registration) )

From what you've described you're probably going to fall under Street Prepared or Street Modified. But you can look through a quick break down of classes and class your car close Here (http://www.azsolo.com/classes/car_class_worksheet_2009.pdf) Or look through the Rules (http://www.scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=61) to really fine tune to the proper class. If your just looking to run locally, class your car the best you can, we won't cut your balls off if ya classed by mistake ;)

pretty much all scca auto-x's are on sunday. Your best bet for a saturday would be Porsche Club of America or Nasa-X if they ever do one again...

Bryan, you would be in SMF (Street Modified Front wheel drive).
That is a race tire class if you were at a nationals event. Locally we have classes for street tired cars. On the registration form select SMF for your class, and ST2 for your category.
ST2 is the category for Street Prepared, Prepared or Street Modified cars that are running street tires.
I know some of this can be confusing, but if you come out to an event or 2 and talk to some regulars it will quickly become much more clear.
BTW... an EG with a K24 and a B20 head won SMF at nationals this year...you have THE car.

Sounds like a few of you are going to be out to check things out, take pics, etc...
That's great. Look up us Honda runners and say hi. Hopefully we'll see some more of you in the future on course. It is a ton of fun. Especially when it's not hot.

& Adam...ST needs you badly. Get that CAT back in. Magnaflow makes some nice and fairly cheap Hi-flow bolt ins units if you don't want the O.E. back in.
When I started running ST in '06 there were 10 to 12 people running. Numbers have been slowly depleting since then. The more people there are in a class the more fun it is for everyone.

We traditionally have competition runs first (A.M.) and Time only Runs after lunch. If you're just out to check things out, I'd be glad to take ride along's in the Time Only runs in the afternoon. We have loaner helmets on site, or better yet, bring your helmet out. Just about any of us will give rides during T.O. runs, just ask the driver.
We should have 4 Time Only runs, so feel free to hang around the grid area with your helmet, ready. Then ask and jump in!

When I need to put my cat back on for emissions, I might play around in ST.I backed away from ST when I realized, you or david rock could easily wipe out all the guys currently in ST. I did have fun while I was competing in that class though.

I would get the direct fit cat from magnaflow but, they are priced pretty high.
http://www.magnaflow.com/02catalytic_converters/02product/displaydirectfit01.asp?catalogid=16586&directfit=22624

Also I like how running in st1/st2 gives a choice when you want to run.I know there has to be a shit load of cars on AZHT that could run in ST. Why don't more people auto-x?

Sorry to hear you haven't been out lately due to Rock and me. You know we don't run in ST Open, so come on back and ignore us. http://www.azht.net/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif ST Open needs you.

Point 2. Yeah, that's the million dollar question. AzSolo should have a lot more Hondas out there. I've never seen a 4th Gen CRX autocross in Phoenix. The only EG's have been Rich Damp about 5 years ago, Tage about 3 or 4 years ago, and now Aaron & Doug Higginbotham. 3 that I can think of in 5 1/2 years. I think the only EF that's participated in the last 3 years has been mine (since Clint sold the almighty Wagovan). Yes folks, Wagovans are badass autocross machines & all you need are some 15 x 7 wheels & some coilovers!
That was the point of this thread...to get more participation for one of the best car makes in Autocrossing.

Can anyone help me, I want to see what autocross is about. I been going to NASA events and doing the HPDE's and i was told i should try autocross to improve my driving if i want to get better. I was looking at the registration and I'm just completely lost.

I'm pretty sure I'm in SMF/ST2 but since this my first time should i go to the novice?

I have a 94 Integra GSR: Intake, headers, exhaust, coil-overs, braking system upgraded, toyo proxy 4, rear is gutted out and no power steering.

Thanks

Register: SMF/NV2. Sounds all totally OK for SMF except for the gutted rear. In the SM categories you're allowed to remove the rear seats and belts but not all the panels (not totally gutted). With the rear panels and seats back in you'd be OK for D street Prepared (DSP). I don't think anyone will have a problem with you running in SMF though. It's just something to keep in mind over the long run if you want to continue with the sport. E Prepared would be the category for gutted Integras / Civics... but run SMF for now.
Autcrossing will teach you a lot about getting a car to handle. Spend some time here and you'll return to the track much faster and with a better understanding of how to set your car up for different tracks / conditions.

Yes, free to spectators. All you have to do is sign a waiver form at the gate. If you plan on doing some ride alongs, tell the people at the gate and they'll get you the appropriate wrist band.

Cars actually start running about 9 + or - a few minutes. If you want to see the whole experience get there by 7:30 or so and walk the course, attend the drivers meeting, etc. The course walks last from 7:30 to 8:20 then the drivers meeting at 8:30.

i did all that work on the roof with all those self-tapping screws and no pictures? :)
the event went well.
my coupe did alright. got down to a 39.5 sec. fast time was about 37.0 or 36.something....
got to get some more time behind the wheel. my dad and i just started after about 15 years.
it was nice to see some more guys out there at least looking around.
with so many Honda's on here with so much great improvments to them we should be dominating these events!
it's only $30 for a great day of entertainment!
have a great week!

Yes in the DD, the clutch failed, a chunk of metal broke off the disc, wedged itself in the pressure plate prohibiting disengagement of the clutch, and left me stranded. I'll send you a picture it was pretty bad. On the good note, going with ITR 1st-4th, GSR 5th, ITR LSD, and new Exedy clutch all ready to go as of today :) just gotta throw it back in the car now :smirk:

Already in contact with Aaron, just need to get the car finished first

Thanks to everyone that came out yesterday. Was a great event. I met a few driver's but not nearly enough. Hopefully next event I'll get to make my rounds and meet everyone. Aaron is right, there are a lot of Honda's that should easily be competitive out there. You don't have to have the best set-up to be competitive, just need seat time and for roughly $30 how do you pass it up? I'm driving a 4dr 2000 Civic LX on crappy Falken 512's. You don't need a lot to be fast. :drive:

Anyways, great seeing new faces and hope you keep coming out and more follow.

Were you guys there? Want to see more pics. Next time I will bring my cheap point and shoot. Want to show people what these events are like.

It was a great event, good weather, great course design, and 5 competition runs.

I saw a few more honda's than usual 92-96 civic w/ dot-r's, the silverish blue 2dr.ek with the gold rims and tow hook.

Still a little surprised that there wasn't more. Auto-x cross is a cheap safe way to see what your car can do after you mod it.

No it was very cool, just very small compared to the nasa meet.

EJ8, thx for the pics! Adam, good to see you again! Finally met Aaron. Good times!
As for the turnout, it was the smallest turnout in years. I think it may have been due a little to the proximity to the holidays and mostly due to a completing event held at the Sierra Vista Airport. The SV airport is known as one of the best AutoX sites in the state and we lost probably 10 regulars to that event.
As an observer I can see that things may have seemed a bit slow.
On the other hand, as a participant you had more runs, and more runs = more fun.
I know once some of you try it, you'll be hooked.

It was definitely a small turn out. We had roughly 80 driver's when we are normally around 100. Things will pick back up since the Holidays are over. Looking forward to February with some new tire's! :drive:
