View Full Version : does a motor sitting for about 2 years, still work?

i couldnt find exactly what im looking for so, the motor that came with my car has been sitting about 2 years.would there be anything wrong with it, or would it be fine? sitting in a garage on a piece of cardboard.also i have a head that i got 2-3 months ago that been sitting around 3-4 months would anything be wrong with that? if so what would it be? i know i wont know til i start it but that wont be til about another month or so, so im trying to be prepared early.

To break the rings free from the cylinder walls (if in fact there is any rust in the motor) without actually BREAKING the rings.

put mine in last night after it sitting for 2.5 years fired right up!!

My B18B1 sat in a shop on the floor for 2-3 years before I bought it. I cleaned it up, it was really clean already, ran some oil through it and fired it up. Purrs like a kitten and pulls hard. Leaks no oil to boot. I did freshen things up a little new water pump and timing belt and tune up. WD40 works, lubes the rings up and keeps them from scoring the walls. A little smoky and smelly but effective. Most JDM motor sit for awhile before being shipped to the US.
