Has anyone done the H22 LMA upgrade on a B16 or GSR head? I got one B16 that had this LMS set up in it. It has H22 LMA springs with a 1mm washer/spacer to shim it up. My B16 LMA seem a little sticky to me. How well does this h22 LMA and shim work? I would just get the new style LMA but at $27 a piece that is pricey.

Done it about 500 times... make sure the washer is hardened.

Yo i swear i just read this exact thread on honda-tech.

I want to replace mine too.
I have access to a full set of K series ones. Scott do you know if these will work? I'm gonna call you right now but i feel like you're gone already (they're free)

Ok cool. From what I found you need .040 hardened washers correct?? I think whoever put that head together used the wrong washers, thay are not hardened for sure.

No clue if the K ones will work. You will need to measure them and test.

I could not find hardened washers anywhere. No issue my dad in a machinist and is making me some spacers out of a hardened steel.

Got my head back and put in the custom LMA spacers and H22 LMA. See how it works. Should be a good setup. Spacers where machined out of a tool grade steel, fairly hard stuff. Then they where hardened further by heating then cooling in oil.

ugh i'm about to do this myself.
I'm not really lovin the sticky ones i has now :(

Yeah the stock ones where sticky and I just could not put them back in a fully rebuilt head. I will report how they work once I get the head on the motor and fire it up.

Does someone have a picture of what these look like on the inside?

Did ACE not have the washers in correct size and hardness?

I will take some pics of them installed in my head tomorrow along with the shim I had made. If I can remove a LMA without pulling the rocker arms I will.

I'm pretty sure you can remove them without taking out the rocker arms. The cams definitely need to come out though...

They do work. I don't know about the K series LMAs... as I havent tried that route yet. The H22 LMA and washer set-up is still cheaper.

I found that washers at ACE varied in thickness. They are also too soft and changed shape over time. Finding hardened washers was a bit more difficult, but I source some from a company called Copper state bolt and nut.

Copper state is one of my first stops after ACE.
They're not too far from me.

But the reason i brought up the K-series LMA's was because I can get a hold of a complete set of 8 for free....

I would have to measure them for sure. I believe that they will work, but I still think they need to be shimmed despite having a shim built into them.

I'll measure them with my micrometer.

Should i find specs on fully open, and fully closed probably?

Yeah I thought for sure they would have them but nope. I took the pics of the LMA but dont have the time to post them up tonight. I will try tomorrow. Got really busy and tired from pulling the Ls head.
Pics of H22 and B16 LMA. H22 on the left.

.423 but .420-.425 will work also.
Got the head on and it is running, great in fact still on th Ls tune lol. No LMA or valve train noise. The H22 LMA are working just fine. Thanks for the help. :you rock:

There is an updated B Series part #... Its also a beehive style.
Supposed to be a direct replacement.

P.S. it was my head we discovered the soft washer issue...LOL I was so pissed I thought I fucked up and put the wrong size in.

The old style B16 and GSR are pron to sticking mine did this, and it causes the third Vtec rocker to move excessively causing valve train noise. They are also a weak point when running larger cams. The H22 LMA does not have these issue.

Yes there is but the price is much higher that the old style and the H22. That is the only drawback when it comes to the new LMA $$$.
My H22 LMA is working perfectly.

How did you make those spacers, I want some. I have some hardend washers in mine head with the h22 spring right now, but I need to check them to see if they are deformed.

It's still around 25 dollars a piece. x8 that's 200, plus tax....

The h22 LMA's are at max 8 a piece. x8 that's 64 plus tax plus maybe 10 dollars for washers?

so 75 vs 220?

idk

Had my dad who works at a machine shop turn them on a lathe for me.
