im trying to figure out some sputtering issues how important is it to makes sure the rods go back into the cylinder that they come out of? im fairly sure i put them in the holes they came out of. but i have a tendency to second guess my self. and now that im having power issues at low rpm i am begining to wonder.

Can you give some more info?

What all was apart?
What all was replaced?
What all was machined, and how so? Like what was rebalanced, refinished, etc?

Its more of making sure the piston returns to its proper home...

But.... if you run a compression test and they all check out pretty close to one another, then i would have to say that eliminates anything to do with the short block. Anything more then 15psi off, something is wrong. Low compression will cause a missfire at idle.

Plus 1 ^ If the head was just rebuild and valve job done make the adjustment a little tighter that spec. The valves will seat and need readjusting, going a little tight will prevent a readjust.
