So since I hang out here a lot I wanted to share the progress on one of the people I am consulting with.

This is a buddy of mine who I am working with on nutrition/training. When he came to me back in September he was VERY strong, but also at a much higher bodyfat/weight then he liked. He was sitting around 290 at 5'9.

I wrote him a highly customized diet, and we were off and running. Fast forward to today(4.5 months later) and he is 232, which is right about 60lbs down.

He is a machine. He does exactly what I say, no questions asked, and no excuses.

It goes to show what a little hard work,CONSISTENCY, and following a game plan will do. It also goes to show you that DIETING DOESN'T have to be boring!! Joe gets to eat kids cereal(fruity pebbles, cinnamon toast crunch, etc), pop tarts, and plenty of other "junk food" items, at certain times. It is all part of the plan. This stuff can be used to your advantage if you know how.

We will take him down to probably about 210, where he should be a big thick 12% bf or so.

Here is a video of him taken today, showing some brute strength. This is a brutal drop set of dead lifts. NO straps, no rest, just a whole lot of heart. If you have never stood there, holding 500lbs in your hands, you can't even begin to understand the grip strength it takes to hold the bar there between weight changes.

Thanks. He is a pretty damn strong kid!

Right now, since we are getting to the last leg of weight loss, we are more concerned with preserving strength/muscle then building it. You can't really put on muscle, on a diet, naturally(at least to any appreciable degree)

Once we have him lean enough I will adjust his diet so he is just maintaining for a month or two to let his body get used to the new lower weight/bf, then begin to add some mass.

It is something I do on the side.

Here is another. 16% bodyfat, to 8% tested via bodpod. Total time about 3 months.

Spec c is right. I use to be a fat kid myself, but in 2009 I changed my eating habits and started the n,oow famous workout p90x. I started at 230lbs and dropped down to an amazing 156lbs. Diet is key fellas, I struggled everyday with my weight and now I have it under control. Since I completed p90x I advanced to the also famous insanity workout and then completed that and broke through the barrier with Sean t's insanity:the asylum. I recently made the purchase of p90x2 and believe me, this workout is no bs. It will kick your ass. You gotta push hard, you have to kick the bad habits and stay focused. You will see results.

I just wanted to post a bit of an update. First pic about 290 after pic at 224 last week. Currently already under his last weeks low at 223, so hoping to see 222 by Saturday.

Hard work pays off. ;)

Little update. Close to 100lb down. We're getting close to his goal of ripped status. Another bodpod is scheduled for a few weeks so we're going to push it a bit.

Getting "cut" is a matter of being lean enough. Not having enough muscle is a different issue.

Damn great work! I lifted 495 on a partial and most I did was 405 and that shit was heavy lol and I almost passed out when I did 225 x 30. Maybe he can get his weight down a little more and compete in powerlifting.

Partial meaning rack dead? How high was the bar set? I think my best rack dead was around 600+ for reps, with the bar about an inch under my knee. I think I posted a video my 550 x 1 deadlift(from the floor) in the other thread.

You ever do deficit deads? They will really help your pull.

Do you use straps?

Yea rack dead we call it partial, dont really matter. Bar was just below my knee caps and never have tried deficit but im sure it will help alot. I was training to compete in powerlifting but then got with the girlfriend and stop doing it lol! but not im trying to get back into it and at least get state titles in my class

What is your weight?

I am thinking about doing a meet myself. Probably just a push/pull.

Ideally I would love to fly out East and try and get the Strict Overhead press world record in the 198 or 220lb class.

Deadlifted 500lbs as a senior in high school (@ decently lean 190 lbs). Now I'm 23 and at a chunky 230lbs. Feels bad man. I wanna get back to the way I was and even better. What are your rates?

I have literally trained abs 10 times in my life..lol If you are lifting heavy shit, compound movements(squats, deads, etc, etc) Your abs are getting plenty of work.

Not to mention your abs should be getting HAMMERED in BJJ.

Exactly what Spec said. And even when I was training BJJ constantly, I still made time to train in the gym. It's all a matter of how bad you want it.
