Anyone know what combinations of oe parts/blocks net the best power gains while maintaining reliability?

Want to put a b motor together, not looking to put the biggest numbers out, want to maintain reliability for daily driven fun

Originally thought of just going with a b16b motor :drive:

B16b's are gutless.
Ls crank/ rods itr rs pistons is basically the standard know adays for a basic reliable pump gas motor.

What short block and head is being used?

CRAY is right, having a B16 with the smaller stroke makes them noticeably less gutless down low. However a well built B16 with the right setup and tune will run pretty quick when you start turning the RPM's.

I had a full B16a with bolt ons, and a good tune that made 173whp on a Mustang Dyno which is a lower reading dyno. That motor outran a lot of NA B-Series cars in Tucson a lot and it was in a full interior 1994 Civic Si Hatchback.

An LS (B18b) / B20 (B20) Vtec runs extremely well if you put it together right (or have a shop assemble you one). You can use the B16/B18c generation heads on those bottom ends as well.

If you want something reliable I would just purchase an engine from HMO or another reputatble source to just drop in and go.

Ofcourse I'll go with an HMO motor

Was just wondering if for example a b16b motor with lets say itr cams and thicker head gasket would make a diff in hp, I've heard though that Ctr cams are more aggressive

Definitely looking to run a good header like hytech and maybe itbs, higher tolerance valve springs and so on

What's your definition of reliable? I daily drove a VTEC Killer B16a for a year.... The intake cam on the 98 spec itr engines and the b16b is slightly more aggressive.

My car didn't really make any noticeable power below 6k but 6k rpm came fast with the 4.9 final.

Well not looking to go full build pushing 12.5:1 compression and so on

Although anything can go wrong with any motor I still would like to minimize the likelyhood of blowing a motor that I spent a shit ton on by keeping the factory balance.

Don't care so much about making a large amount of power, sorta like spoon motors and how they don't make crazy hp but are perfectly balanced

Spoon engines are generally prepped for N1 races and Super Taikyu dude. Both of those racing bodies require stock engines hence the reason why Spoon engines are just race prepped OEM engines.

Spoon engines actually make very good power, and rev very high very reliably. Going with a thicker head gasket will lower compression and lower power.

What is your budget?

Don't have one but not looking to get stupid with it

I know I could go k series but I rather not, want to keep it simple and functional for the occasional spirited drives up mountain road curves and track

Buy a complete drop in Type R swap for HMO or another reputable place then. You'll have a great LSD transmission, and a very well designed and balanced factory Type R engine.

That's what I initially was thinking of doing, either b16b or itr

Just wondering if let's say an ls short block with Ctr internals and itr head would net more power and so on

Search OmniMan 200hp b16.

b20 block, rs type r pistons, ported itr and pro1's

Pro 1's wouldn't be an OEM build, and technically neither are the pistons.

Yeah, anything will rev high reliably when it's designed to do so for 12 hour endurance races. Also, it's amazing what power a stock engine is capable of when it's not trying to save the rain forest and provide a comfortable grocery getting experience for your mum.

This is probably going to be a stupid question but what is HMO?
