Kinda looking to pick up a new daily was oringially looking at something sporty but family car budget firiendlt is more in point with what I need. Kinda narrowed it down to a first gen xb or element. Really just looking for real people's opinions on both or maybe someone that has owned or driven both..
Currently then2 choices are a 06 element 5speed awd with 86k but orange or a 05 xb 62k auto in a dark red color

I like the xb. Drove my cousins and it felt pretty nice seems big and to me looks better than an element

Isn't the Element a lot more then the first gen Xb?

This isn't a SC unfortunately, the extra power of the element is a big upside but 10mpg less is the down side

It's surprising how big they are on the inside.

Both that I'm looking at are pretty similar in price, dam xb seem to hold its value like crazy

I've driven an xB before. Not a fan really. Plenty of head room and a better family car given it has 4 full doors instead of the Elements rear suicide doors. I'd take the xB for ease of getting the kids in the car and nothing more.

Not a fan of how the Element looks, but I've not driven one so I can't say much else.

If you're looking for a family car, I'd say get something with 4 doors. I had an extended cab truck for awhile. Even it was somewhat of a pain getting the kids in.

Toyota or Honda either way you are getting a reliable vehicle, I would go with the element.

I can only speak for the xB, I owned a 06 and an 08. I loved my 1st gen, and would totally own one again. I liked the 1st gen so much I got the 2nd gen when they came out. They are kinda weird because they seem so small on the outside but inside has tons of headroom and legroom. When my kids were smaller all 3 could ride in back with no issues. My only gripe was cargo space, pretty limited.

Everytime I see a decent xB, I shed a tear.

Maintenance cost, reliability, xb hands down. You cant beat toyotas reliability. With the auto, you change the trans fluid when its supposed to be change (100k i think) and all other fluids (most toyota fluids are 100k fluids) it will run forever. No clutch replacement, awd to fuck with. I worked for toyota and most work was just maintenance work, their parts rarely ever broke down. Thats why toyota's resale values are so high. Their quality here is just as strict as it is in japan.

i went over this in 2006 when i bought my 2005 scion xb.i am definitely biased but damn i love mine! its been so reliable to me.i've done so much crap to it & its never let me down...i have a 2005 scion xb, 165000 miles.no probs at all.hell i've taken 3 trips to cali in the last 6 weeks.and i'll make 1 more...tons of room in the inside.great gas mileage.cheap maintenance.not much more else you could ask for.seats 5 comfortably.

I always thought the Element was an interesting concept, and for a while my wife wanted one. It's odd that she liked the Element, but couldn't stand the xB, claiming it was too small and boxy.

Thanks for all the responses guys, after doing tons of thknking on this I've decided the xb is the better way to go, cheaper, seats 5 not 4, better gas mileage, and seems to be better aftemarket support for em... Just gotta finish up my mustang part out then sell my current del sol and ill be on the hunt for one

but 10mpg less is the down side

Aerodynamics and weight kill MPG's in the Element. compare the Aero and weight of the Element to the CRV
