I have a 98 civic hx with a lame d series motor and i want to put in either an si motor or get a B16 type r.... if i get a regular B16 wouldnt it be easier and a little bit cheaper to just upgrade the parts with type r parts????What type r parts would i need for the upgrade?

Get a K20, even the K20a3 is faster than B Series, I think.

But a B16 can be swapped in an EK using all OEM parts. Cheap and easy.

Do an OBD-1 or OBD-2 B16A and put a CTR intake cam in it.

uhh.. no. He didn't mention anything about a k20 and a k20a3 is not necessary faster than a B-series.

Yeah ossry I shouldn't of said anything about the K-series, out of the question. Don't listen to me!

well the B16 type R has different internals than a regular B16 and not 100% percent sure but i think it has a taller deck height to...

I know the CTR has better head flow.

ya... slightly... same thing with the GSR versus B16... but the difference wetween the Type R heads and the B16`s is it has a factory port job..

No, don't fall for the b16 trend. Spend a little extra and go gsr. The motor has much more potential. Lower compression. Will be more reliable in the long run. Sounds better with exhaust/mods.

If anything to a poor mans. B16 head on a gsr. It will raise the compression slightly and you'll still have a torquey motor. The b16 even the b16b has the same tq as a d series. It's going to feel like a d series until you get to 4k rpms. I regretted painfully putting a b16 in my last car. + it was still slow

k24 ftw it would be the cheapest way to go like a modern day b20

ummm the b16A i put in my wifes eg whoops my mildly built d16 i got in my ek. im pretty sure that the b16A has more torque than the d16y8!!!! I COULD BE WRONG THO!!!

im gonna go with the b18c5R,but you cant go wrong with an R-motor!! i say go with the
b16b, they are generally bullet proof, and work well with boost!! get what you can afford and what you want!

The b16A does have more torque than the D16, but not by that much.

I would just grab a 170hp B16A from an SiR and build that.

I can attest to b16b's making good power on boost. They do have a taller deckheight. They are basically a destroked ITR motor. They are expensive, if I was gonna spend 3500+ on a motor I would save a little more and get a k20.

can you put b16b rods and pistons into a b16a? or would it be really pointless without the b16b crank?

If I'm not mistaken the B16B and B16A cranks are pretty much the same.

oh, so it would just be easier to get gsr rods.

I'd do more research first about it though.

This site can help you about te B16a and B16B: http://www.ek9.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1
