Hey guys.. I gotta couple of questions! Right now im running a D16z6, with some bolt on. For example DC headers, air intake, and a STR fuel rail. But i wanna start a new build. Im gonna keep my 92 civic hatch. But im thinking about building a B20 block with a B16 or B18 head. I wanted to get some suggestions on if i should go the B16 or B18 head? And was wondering if anyone knew which would be easier to run a turbo on? any suggestions would be deeply appreciated! Thank you

Why is the B20 a bad idea? should i just hook up the D16?

I have heard so many different things about the B20. At the end of the day a better engine is the LS vtec. The B20 has a weak block and casting and cannot handle high horsepower like other set ups can. The LS vtec is almost as cheap and more realiable. Hell look at Ravi teg. Thats a LS vtec turned type r and he's putting down some crazy power.

The D16z6 can handle around 200-225 whp with stock internals and has plenty of parts for it. Crower and zex both make good cams that are fairly cheap. Supertech makes a valvetrain thats under $300 for titanium springs and retainers. Turbo kits start around $1000 for a brand new kit and you can build one for cheaper than that.

I say build the D or go LS vtec. Since the D is still running good buy an LS block and build it then swap that in.

Having a B20 or H22 under your hood is like having a garbage dump in there...

They will break just by looking at them.

While im not a fan of B20's, my first turbo setup was a B20, it handled 262whp no problem for about a year before i switched to an LS/Vtec.

Its all in the build and tune folks.

i had a turbo B20 as well. i actually miss my B20. it made crazy torque. and if your planning on sleaving it then it doesnt really matter which block you get. B20 or LS. but for boost and stock block i would prolly go LS. but na go B20.

yeah stock for stock i'd choose b18 over b20 but theres alot of rumors regarding the b20 :)

mine was stock minus arp rod bolts and a block saver :)

right on, yeah i ran like 9.5psi on mine, no issues ever.

Oh and the whole thing about the sleeves being thinner, incorrect, i've physically measured them in comparison with my 97 LS block. They are identical within .05mm

really?? then are they just made differently? why do people say the sleaves are so much weaker?

its more simple physics than anything.

The sleeve is the SAME thickness, but the BORE is larger, meaning more surface area to apply force, but same amount of material to contain said force.
So the containment force of the B20 is proportionally less than the b18. :)

Thanks for the comments guys! So i just decided to stick with the D and build a LS on the side just for a project.. Then eventually swap them out and put the D in another car, maybe a 89 or 90 hatch.. But since im gonna stick with the D, i alrdy got a fuel rail whats some good cheap injectors? i was thinkin GSR injectors could use some feed back on that though.

most honda injectors are 260cc except for say, prelude, rdx and a few newer injectors

im a big fan of going with DSM injectors (450's). Not to big and pretty damn cheap, yet very functional. I've run those on all my boosted cars

B20s are the biggest B's.
More displacement=more HP and TORQUE
If you plan on staying with pump gas theres no reason no to build a B. Just build/tune it right.
10psi on a basic B20 would be sick AND cost effective

The B18C1 is the best factory block for boost due the the factory crank girdle.

If you are going to build an LSVTEC you may as well start with the best parts. The LSVTEC was a cheap way to make more power than a B18C1 and get into stomping grounds of a B18C5 without all the added cost. These days a lot of people are tossing in all kinds of parts defeating the whole purpose of that Frankenstein combo to begin with.

I say boosted D16Z6 or boosted B18B1 with dyno tuned Hondata S300!

if you want to go b20v do it, but the real question what kind off power are you wanting, you can make 250 on your d with a turbo kit s300 and a great tun, so i would say start with a hp range first. the money wise.
