wow never thought a company would bring a car like that to the states. Usually its Eoupean countries that eat up the little cars. Wonder how it will sell.

theyve been here before that. but given the amount of road accidents in the US i seriously doubt this is a good idea. then again i guess it'll bring the population down.

i'm sure your being sarcastic, but just to argue i've seen on of those that got into a nasty crash with a Semi and that thing deteriorated worse than a damn Vette. Needles to say both passengers didn't make it. and there wasn't much to idestify them with either....

note, i was just pointing out that the smart has a very strong shell and will not likely cuase to population to go down due to fatalities. if youd die in this car youd die in any other car

i was satationed in germany for 8 yrs and let me tell you this kid, most people didnt walk away on both ends. plus ive personally seen 2 smart cars get blown off the autobahn by 18wheelers cause of the sheer speed of the 18wheelers. plus cross winds are a bitch in those sardine cans. not trying to check you on it,just giving you a lil heads up from good old deutschland.

my buddy and I went to a dealership,
and they want like 30grand for those "Things".
I was looking at them, and they look very very cheaply made
like a car you would buy at a swapmarket or something
with a .7 liter turbo 3 banger

You guys are comparing apples to boulders.
Of course if you're going to put it up against a semi a car with the weight and mass it has, will lose, It's simple physics working against it then. But crashing that thing against a civic or even a pickup won't do as much damage to the Smart car itself. Simple correlation would be throwing a hollow metal box (Welded well together) against another metal object... If structurally sound, the hollow box should absorb most of the impact, without little to no physical deformation.

Yeah get hit by a semi in anything other than another semi, and your going to get fucked up.

Shit i was in a semi and i got hit by another one in the driver side door, shit made my seat belt break and i went flying across the cab.

My MOm has one and she had a problem with a the headlights and because Mercedes sells them they were rapping her on getting it serviced. I talked her out of taking it to the dealership every xx number of miles. Another problem she had was at her old house she had to park on the street and someone smasher her windo and broke the side mirror, and then a bunch of teens tipped it on its side. She lives in a place with her own garage now.

As for riding in it and driving it, I did not really like it. Its really not that comfortable and has a lot of wide noise. Driving it is really different, due to the long dash and high ceiling you feel liek your driving a bigger car. Accelration is decent and has a go cart kind of feel to it when giving it gas. The shifting was hard for me to get use to because you shift the shifter up for the next gear and down to downshift. That through me off because I was so use to my car. It has paddle shifters as well, which I tried to use while griving in traffic, didn't work out that well.

Overall I would not recommend this car and I have been trying to talk my Mom into getting a civic for the past year now.

Actually his buddy is correct, right now(or up until recently) smart cars were only allowed to be imported and registered in Missouri and then would need to be transfered to another state for sale after being registered in Missouri..So take the price of the car + Sales tax, pluse trasport fee's re-registration and Sales tax in what ever state you want it in and it adds up quickly...

One of the members where I work was talking to me about them and told me how one of his dealers in AZ wanted one and it ended up costing 28K (he works for the largest privately owned dealer owners in the US, they own over 500 dealerships)

. I have a buddy who was t-boned by a semi in his Mini( OG mini not a new one) and walked away from it..The Semi was doing 45 mpg when it hit him... The car was so light it slide before being crushed..
