A friend of mine has an EF Hatch with a seized motor, and he's willing to part ways with it pretty cheap. What is my easiest, most cost-effective option for a new engine? How much is a replacement SOHC motor worth, and what's the price difference between that and a swap to a more potent choice? Thanks for any info.

Just go B-series.. About $1500 can find you an entire B16 swap, maybe even an LS or something.. GL man.

X2. and even if you dont want to go OBD1 you can get full B16 or LS swaps for pretty cheap. or go sohc vtec with an Si trans and PM7 ecu. that would also be a nice setup!

If that hatch is an Si, try to find a good D16A6 (88-91 Si) or D15B7 (92-95 DX) longblock locally.

If it's a DX/STD, only look for a D15B1/2/7 and keep it DPFI for now. Then, do OBD-1 and MPFI at the same time.
