What would you say is a quick car?
1/4 mile wise.

If any car capable of running the 1/4 under 14.99 sec rolled up to me, I'd say it's a pretty quick car.

i usually say quick is when he goes some where by just stepping on the gas..

i.e.

my crx is quick cause it accelerates if i floor it with out dropping a gear

my del sol isnt quick cause it crawls up the mph slowly when i do the same thing..

Honestly, my perception is off, because our daily drivers growing up were mid-high 12 second cars. I honestly have a hard time respecting something that won't run 12.99 or faster...but that's just me.

and thats why i said, most of them.99+ and 05+ GT's are 13-second cars. Usually, the driver keeps them from running that.

Pre-99, only the Cobra's and Cobra R's and Saleen's were worth a shit (stock). But, those are now nearly decade old cars.

interesting take, as you say fast is fast *as in speed* and quick as in quick off of the line.
i always defined it as such

fast is something with crazy top end speed
quick is something that accelerates fucking quickly, runs a good quarter, so probably a 14 second car or lower
good take, but accerlate off of the line doesn't always equal top end. A RWD or AWD will usually take a FWD off the line (hp, weight, all things considered) yet low end doesn't always = top end. Now a well modded car can do both (IE Mustang built from factory with torque and top end with better wheels and gripper tires can be a force off of the line and top end, or a AWD Suby WRX will own low end of the line with tons of Subaru torque and AWD, but a reflashed WRX also picks up top end, etc.)

10s = fast
Maybe true, but most people can't afford a 12 second car, or prefer to drive a more daily driable car car, (Ie not stripped interior, rough idle, loud and exhaust fumes, although some of us like that sort of thing ;) )

Again, true true, but c'mon now, that is for eal driving, not just straight aways. ;) J/k, you are right, unless you are at a track or jut light to light racing, being able to have traction, turn, handle and hold are very important factors in having a daily street fasr car.

you can take an evo, or sti, or srt4, or dsm, camaro, vette, mustang etc etc etc etc...

and with a few mods run 12s....completely stock appearing.

not all people in the car world think you need a 1500lb car to run 12s...shit theres 9second cars easily over 3000lbs

All those 12 second daily drivers didn't start out that way. I'm old enough to know that detroits best in the "musclecar" days were usually 14 second cars. The tires were usually the weak link. All that torque through some skinny bias plys added up to lots of smoke, but not much speed. Speedvision had a show awhile back with all the original late 60's, early 70's musclecars competing against each other. None of those old classics would stand a chance against a hot all motor civic or cr-x. I'm talking GTO Judge, Buick GNX, Olds 442, Mustang, Chevelle etc. The braking performance was downright scarey by modern standards. A properly set up modern street car can better the lap times of many race cars from the 70's.

thats is the difference between quick and fast! fast is just how fast it can go. not how fast it gets there. quick is how fast it gets to a certain speed!! and i say 14-13 on the street is pretty quick. i love my 13 second hatch. and hardly ever lost in a street race. for a street car you dont need to be much faster than that. but i will be!! lol

Re read the post, I also posted that most can't buy/afford insurance on a 35K+ sports car out the box. Even an STI or EVO will need sweet driving but usually one mod to run constant 12s. UNless you you make dolla (in whihc case power to you) don't have a family, or live at home and your paychecks go to you ride.

Yep, integra type r with mods is light to begin, plus weight loss equals cheap speed, aka SRT4 (light weight with pop= heavy car with power, 300c, new charger etc. The power to weight ratio debate continues. :)
