does anyone know on whats all needed for a h23a swap into a 91 prelude. ??
and also. is the h23a1 engine out of a 2000 prelude? i have this guy at work who says he has an h23a1 out of a 2000 prelude and he wants to swap into his 91 prelude.

Alright, there are several problems here. The H23 (in any variant) was never in the 5th gen Prelude (1997-2001), it was only in the 4th gen (1992-1996). Secondly, I've never heard of anyone doing a stock H23 into a 3rd gen (1988-1991) but I can tell you a couple things about an H22 swap. There is quite a bit of custom work that has to be done to swap in the H-series, including motor mounts, harness, tranny, etc. It's not like going from B-series to B-series in Tegs and Civics, I can tell you that much.

i see, so commonly people do the h22a swap into the 3rd gen prelude all the time right? and with that, the job is significantly difficult but it can be done. . i just wasnt quite sure on an h series swap compared to swaps ive done which were and are b series engine swaps. thnx for the info man.

Can be done but it'd be cheaper to buy a 4th gen and swap into that because there was a VTEC H22 in the 1994-1996 (I think those years) Prelude Si VTEC.

edit: Plus a lot better aftermarket support on the 4th gens.

2000 preludes only came with an h22 VTEC, the onlt H23 came out of a 4th gen 92-96.... if the guys is trying to sell you a non-vtec motor and says its from an 00 prelude he is a liar. i believe all 97-up were h22a4? correct me if im wrong fellas.

H23- 92-96prelude si
h22a- JDM 92-96 prelude
h22a1- USDM 92-96 pelude dohc vtec model
h22a4- 97-up prelude. but that maybe SH model
F20b- euro-r accord.

correct these if these are wrong boys

correct over in europe they did have a h23 in the last gen prelude

but to drop a h23 in a 3rd gen takes mounts and axles and a new tranny
mounts can be gotten from azrace , axles from raxle and u will need a 4th gen shifter assembly or u will have a reverse pattern

whoa reverse shift pattern... that would be sweet

whoa reverse shift pattern... that would be sweet

maybe if it was RHD. then i guess it would be kinda cool!

Look, I love the 3rd gen just as much as the next guy, but the cost of H22 swapping is a bit on the absurd side. It's cheaper and much easier to get a 4th gen in decent shape and VTEC swap into it. The lack of aftermarket support for the 3rd gen makes everything you want to do really expensive.

the swap can be done under 4k, complete some have done it for 2500, the fact that u can pull up in the bastard child of honda and rock vtec is priceless

I am currently doing this swap into one of my Preludes. I have my mounts already as well. I can do a H22 swap into my 1989 Prelude 4ws by myself for about 3k. It can be done. It is well worth it in the end. It would be cheaper to keep the 91 and swap in the H22 or boost the B20/B21 than get a 4th gen Prelude.
In order to swap in the H22 into the 91 your friend will need motor mounts. And a custom made wiring harness. Also axles and the shifter assembly unless you want to have a reverse shift pattern. All the other little things are simple. Tackle these and its a near direct drop in. Very much worth the time and money. I will post up pics of mine once finished. If you have anymore questions or need help feel free to contact me on here or at Preludepower.com under the same screen name.
