on my speedo there is that little orange 55 mph mark. is that because the most fuel economy is found at 55 and its just there to show you that?

lol.. i know this sounds dumb to everyone. but i learned about it while i was doing emissions in my auto3 class...

up until 91 or so. 55 mph was the fastest legal speed allowed on anywhere in the road. because there were lots of big heavy cars with v8's and drum brakes hahaha....

hmmm....but why put it on an import with i4 and after that law was abolished?

not too sure? it might have still been a requirment.

just about all cars from 80ish-90 should have one.

There used to be a national speed limit of 55mph, but I forget when that got thrown out.

yup thats what it is, the highest speedlimit was 55mph and it was put there in orage so you know you shouldent go faster than that. lol good thinking huh!?

cus it was a federal speed limit. all cars came with them. dammit, this thread makes me feel old lol

easy answer. people voted that each state should regulate thier own speed limit , and 55 was too dam slow. also, gas wasnt a huge issue like it is now.

that is the reason but it seems odd since in the 1990's car's still have it. and the speed limit on the i-10 east has been 75 since i can remember so at least since 1990.
