ok so i have a four channel amp that came with the car its all hooked up good...

i have another mono amp that i want to hook up with my subs...

my question: can i "piggyback" off the ground, power, and remote wires from the amp already hooked up? or do i have to run all new lines? there is a big fuse already on the 4 channel, and i was planning on putting another fuse between the two amps...

i want to avoid having a capacitor if i can... will i be able to get away with running both amps w/o killing the battery?

thanks!

u can probably run the power and remote wires together on the amp, however i'd ground each one separately.

Another option is to be a distributor (like $20), run your power wires in each slot and then 1 main power wire to the battery

And big fuse on the 4 channel? How big is the fuse under ur hood? How many watts u running and i'll tell u how much amperage u will need the fuse to be!

Yes you can run both but get a distribution block.

where do i get a distribution block? any audio shop im guessing?

the 4channel says its 430 total rms... the fuse is the biggest round one ive seen, but i dont see anywherre that it says the amperage

no dood. when you do it that way you have to criss cross the power and ground. power from amp one to ground on amp two. gett it?

so your saying no distribution block then?

that kind of sounds dangerous like crossing the positive and negative battery termanils.

Depending on what size power wire you are using, and what the real power rating is on the amp. If you are running 8awg, and your amp exceeds 300watt max, then you should run seperate 8awg power and its own ground. you can ground to the same location. If you are running 4awg or above you can use a distrubution to split the power at the rear...Still have to run a seperate ground, even if its to the same place. try not to jump from one amp to another, exept remote amd RCA's (add up the fuses on the amp and multiply it by 12, that will give you the maxx power that amp can put out @14v) Hope this is helpfull..........

hell someone knows something...

how do i measure the wire? i want to know for sure what size is there.

so i can jump remote. but i was planning on running seperate rca cus my alpine has a seperate sw preout :blunt:

8awg is about the size of a ball point pen, and 4 awg is about the size of a fat crayola... Yes u can jump the remote.. sounds like ur on the right track.

first disregard post 5--thats a good way to blow amps and start fires.

1 jump remote
2 get a distribution block for the power--look at both amps rms power combined and that will tell you how big of a power wire(and fuse) you need. 1-300w 8g if fine 300-to like 700 use 4g, and above that 0g.
3 ALWAYS ground each component seperatly

im not sure why u dont want a cap. just price i assume. but if you crank it and use some amps your lights will dim and you will put alot more stress on the whole charging sys. a cap or dual battery is always a good idea. i dont think your at the point to need 2 batterys but i would def get like a 1 farad cap.

So if I did get a cap I would go from that to a dist block?

Hey I have a block you can buy for cheap and it is brand new.

What you should do is run at least 4 gauge wire from the battery to the block and then if you can run 4 gauge to the amps. If that is to big for your amps then run 8 gauge and call it a day. Hit me up on pm if you want the block.

And a cap is always a nice thing to have. You can find a cheap .5 fared (sp?) cap on ebay or about 1000 other sites and that would be plenty for your system.

some caps have dist blocks built in-- that would be easiest

I run 0 guage through the car. Imagine trying to route cable under your carpet that is bigger than the base of your thumb.

ya im thinking of just hooking up the rear speakers to the deck, and then just running the subs off the four channel also, least amount of work and least amount of $

but thanks everyone for the advice

(add up the fuses on the amp and multiply it by 12

you mean the number of fuses or the numbers on the fuses?

i have two 32v 35A fuses on the four channel... it makes my 3 jl 8's slam harder than the pos jensen amp that was running them.

35 AMP+35 AMP(2 FUSES) IS 70 x 12=840WATTS @ 14.4 VOLTS ABSOLUTE MAXX POWER THIS AMP IS CAPABLE OF PUTTING OUT.

don't run the subs off a 4 channel amp. many buddies of mine have done so and it sounds like shit. you will not get the potential power of the subs (dependind on the subs watts) or you will blow them because of distortion. run you mono amp bro. make sure you know if the subs are single voice coil or dual. that will come in handy when you hook up your mono amp.

there are jl w6. i dont know if they are single or dual voice coil... the amp has a built in crossover so i only have lows going to the subs, i thnk it sounds decent!
