I have tried pretty much every tire in the past few years and have to say I was a little scetchy on my most resent purchase the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212. They are one of the best tires I have put on and handle great, not to sure you would want to drivew them in the rain but on a hot day in Az these tires are a slick will not let up. Just my .2cents

kumho 712

always get ur tires at discount tires because of
1) lifetime warranty on tire (includes patching if theres a nail, or replacing it)
2) fully balance and rotate tires everytime you come in
3) able to bargain if other stores can beat it

let me guess someone works at discount or is a die hard customer?

reason's why I don't go to discounts in my area
1) Cost, on everything they charge more than other shops in the area (east valley) & they NEVER come close to matching prices online.
2) Lack of Customer Service, they are usually complete assholes to me even on little things & they try and sell/tell people they need things that they don't just to make a sale (we all know this happens at many places though), for instance my boss, they said his rim was bent & that's why they couldn't balance it properly & that's what was causing slight high speed vibrations (75+), he calls me up & tells me this, I tell him, to SHOW him where the rim is bent, they say it's bent in the middle so they can't show him. lol. I tell him to take his car & get out of there, I take his car to another shop who balanced the wheel without any problems & charged 1/2 of what discount wanted (after haggling).
3) They charge for every little thing, they want $2 for each valve stem & another $2 to put it in & they don't want to put on tires without that little surcharge etc etc

and I would agree with SOHC, splashy must not have driven on azenis before.

the ONLY bad thing about azenis is driving in the rain, you can still do it, but well you gotta be cautious, but this is az it never rains. otherwise, they are the best tires for the money in my book & usually cheaper than the "kumho 712, toyo proxes, yokohomas es100, Nitto gen"

yea i didnt really like the BS at discount. He couldn't match 73 bucks because that was lower than his cost so he matched 77$ which was his cost. The price was aroud 340 for all 4. But the total after all the installation and warrantys ended up around 500$.. I said peace!

I've had the neo genz and azenis

Both good tires. Price varies abit. but heres my beef with the Neo's

They turned into grease slicks on the track, my azenis dont. For street use, both tires are equal.

The rear currently has nitto 555 and front has Toyo Proxes. Bleh doesn't make for a good combination.

And the old azenis were terrible in rain, i've never had a problem with the new ones in rain. I drive safely in the rain :) They put a nice deep rain channel in the 615's...

We just put another set on a WRX and that car is so much more fun now lol (going from P6000's too)

Yeah your comments regarding the rain issue were all based on a tire nearly 14 years old :) The 615 has addressed the issue that the azenis are primarily used on the street vs track conditions and added more than adequate rain channeling support. Not to mention a 30% stickier compound than the previous generation!

BFG's are my fav but i cant afford to buy em and trash em on the track :)

Thank god someone in here actually knows what they are talking about. Can we kill the myth that Azenis are bad in the rain???? I ran the RT-215's for 2+ years and only at the very end of their life was standing water an issue (even then it would have to be 1"+). While I've never owned a set of the RT-615's its obvious by the design that they will perform better in the wet.

Redbeard, I'm glad to see someone got the Direzzas. I've wanted to get some feed back on them for awhile meow. They seem like a nice alternative if you want a tire with a decent tread rating, super low cost and nice dry grip.

Also, someone mentioned the T1-R's. I was looking at these but am leaning toward the PX4's. They are a little harder compound (which can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for) but a hell of a lot cheaper than the T1-R's. They still have great grip in the dry and wet (it seems a few people here are concerned about the heavy rain we get here in AZ :hithead:) and nice aggressive tread design. For the price difference they are very competitive to the T1-R.

And here is a question for the shop owners - Can you get Jap-spec tires over here? Specifically I'm referring to the Bridgestone Potenza G3's? For awhile Discount Tire pretended like they were going to track some down for me but never came through. Id be interested to see how much that would set me back.

you must go in to these stores being a complete asshole. Discount Tire is one of the best known company's for customer service.

that whole valve stem bullshit you're talking about is a bold faced lie. the only reason you are ever charged extra for a valve stem, is if they are mounting tires that arent theres.

as far as the matching online pricing. realistically how many local speed shops have pricing that is competition with online sellers? you are paying for convience , customer service, continual service AFTER the sale. you buy a tire online most of the time you have to pay for shipping. after waiting a few days to get the tires, you have to go find a place to get them mounted. what happens if one of those tires separates? you gonna send it back? what about flat repairs? can they do them over the internet? rotations? balancing? no i didnt think so.

if you talk to any discount tire salesmen like a human being, (not being a complete asshole) they will negotiate the price. most stores will fight for your business if you are polite. no one wants to help an asshole.

if you cant tell, i work for discount. i am damn proud of it. it is one of the best company's to work for. Discount Tire treats there employees extremely well. in case no one looked at my location, i work in Colorado. in 2005 and 2006 Discount Tire Company was rated #1 for customer satisfaction in Denver. NUMBER ONE!!!!!! thats a pretty damn good accomplishment. we would not be the biggest independent tire dealer if we has shitty customer service.

Integrity is one of the biggest things to Discount Tire. maybe you had dealt with someone who was having a bad day. or it was your attitude i don't know. but for your benefit i would recommend giving them another shot. like i was saying, they will always do everything they can to make their customer's happy.

ps, i get a smokin deal on tires :p:

um, 555's suck dick. the only nittos id roll on are nt-01's, but thats just me.

cant go wrong with 615's, but if you want the BEST street tire, its the nt-01.

i agree 100% ive ran the nt450, neogens, and the 555's. i will never go back to a nitto again. they are the most overrated tire

you must go in to these stores being a complete asshole.

I go into any tire shop with the same attitude. I want these tires & at this price mounted & balanced, can you do that? there response is usually no, or something like "let me check & see what we can do for you" (trying to help)... in the end I've walked out every time because they simply fail to get tires for the prices I want & can get them elsewhere at. I go to a tire shop at least once a month for myself or other people (friends/family/etc) and not once has discount been the most cost effective. Now I am a penny pincher so that's part of my issue & again I've just never had a positive experience there, even when my 'friends' have worked there... it's just MY opinion, not the masses obviously by there awards/sucess, it's just MY opinion & MY experiences...

yea man i know all about price matching but the guy didnt believe me that the tires were 73 bucks. He said the price was impossible cause it was lower than his cost.

if you could get a receipt from other dealer or tire store, maybe they would lower it.

Good thread. For street/auto-x ide go with Azenis for track/strip ide go with RS-2's. I personally run RS-2's on the street and RA-1's on the track

falken ziex 512's on my dr20s.

ziex are great cheap daily driving tire & alternative for stock ride quality & cheaper, but shitty performance, period, I've owned 3 sets... two 512's & one 505's or whatever the previous versions were...
