the easiest and most effective way i think would be to switch to a vtec head, probably a z6 with y8 intake mani.

Boost, sohc non-vtec heads flow better than sohc vtec heads, therefore the potential horsepower is better. Also, for quick easy horsepower get an sohc zc cam.

i would get a Z6 intake manifold and port match it to a LS or B18 TB, pull the cam and send it to exospeed for their stage 2 regrind service, its like 90 bux... get a cheap header and hack off the downpipe and have a muffler shop weld on 2 1/2 piping for u at the intersect (I personally like the old 4-1 kamikaze headers....) then socket ur ecu and do a little street tuning, my stock D16a6 in my 1990 civic Si, @ 224K miles went 15.4 in the quarter and took a 50 & 75 shot for 3 months b4 blowing on a 100 shot, thats why it blew nothing else but too much bottle into the motor... nitrous is another cheap power adder...

you could get an aftermarket intake manifold too.
