i just got a d16 head i wanna rebuild the whole thing.
i havent dont really much work on engines .

wat should i upgrade to when i rebuild it?

If you want just a mild build for the street. I'd say a little higher comp ratio, get a three angle valve job, get the valvetrain beefed up and throw a cam in it. Of course with the usuall intake header and exhaust. Go get a nice tune from locash. If you really want to make a D series quick I'd talk to ILIKETODRIVE, he knows alot about Dseries. D series suffer from bad gearing, it's hard to make anything fast without the correct gearing.

EASILY fixable, just takes deep pockets, deeper than most D-Series people want to go. :tongue:

Get a zex 10300 cam and a ex tranny for starters. If you want to fix the gearing problem you could always replace the 3rd and 4th gear with zc gears then the tranny will have shorter gears.

Using an HF/4-speed 3rd as 4th is a dead-on straight swap. Trying to use the ZC 4th in a hydro case requires grinding to fit.

Yeah 10 minutes of grinding for fourth gear. To have a better 3rd and 4th, I say it worth the 10 minutes of work instead of just a better 4th gear. You know our tranny is similar to a ls and those suck so we gotta do whatever we can to get better ratios. Thats what im gonna do.

That's what you meant, right?

I was saying that the HF/4-speed 3rd gear ratio (1.033) is identical to the ZC 4th gear and is a straight swap into a hydro trans as 4th gear, unlike the ZC 4th.

Yeah its the same but then you have to find 2 different gears i was just suggesting getting a Zc tranny and using those. The hf gear is easier to find but if you found the Zc gears hopefully 3rd and 4th is there. Just trying to help not argue.
