I have a 98 gsr in my 92 CX hatch that I bought off my friend who just got a type R (rich bastard) and it wasn't in great condition but it was still quick.
I've taken it out to the track and the best I could pull was a 15.2......
everyone tells me that is a horrable time for my set up, so I'm wondering if I should just rebuild it or if a new one would be cheaper in the end?..... your thought?

thats prly all it is. just give it time and you will get beter. dont worry about it. fuck man the first time i went to the track i ran a 14.0 at 116 on a turbo gsr cause i was so shitty.

it just takes time.

haha happens to the best of us, i ran a 14.2 at 108 on turbo gsr and im still shitty, it really does take seat time.

Have you done a compression test or anything like that to see if you need a rebuild

Yeah i was going to say do a compression check too but all you guys already said that. Thats the first thing to do to know if it should be rebuilt or not.

leave that motor stock, and build one on the side ;)

ok, I got a compression test schedules for sunday.

but I think either way I'm put JDM Type R pistons in my engine ...... but What about a valve train?..... any advice would be HIGHLY appreciated.....

who are you going to have put these pistons in?

if you are just doing stock type R stuff why not a type R valve train?

If your going to keep it all motor why not put B16 pistons or Ctr pistons they will have higher compression.

learn to drive your car on the track, again it takes TIME, and your times will go down a lot...

master your '60 foot times, that's all that matters!!!!
basically you want to be between bogging the engine & spinning the tires, you want to put the power TO THE GROUND, spinning your tires means your going SLOWER, bogging your engine, obviously will not make power... slipping/feathering the clutch can help with launches if you can do it right, but it's not easy.

Also, if your at the track for "you" and not to beat the person next to you, I'd wait in the staging area for a second or two AFTER the green light as to not let the light fool you, master your '60ft times & then worry about timing the light... also, LOWER YOUR TIRE PRESSURE in the front dramatically, if your running street tires 12-18psi depending on the tire. then fill them up on the way home @ the closest gas station...

also, my first time in my turbo ls teg 18g 6psi I ran high 14's/low 15's @ 100mph with the worse '60ft times on earth... your not alone, everyone sucks their 1st time...

tires are good idea as well.

ITR pistons would be higher compression than B16's and CTR's would be to high of compression for pump gas.

and i say R valve train. i have ITR pistons for sale if your interested!

then how come in lsvtec's b16 pistons have higher compression than Itr's?

its reaction time or it could be not gettin traction..takes time to get use to a car.

well, I do kinda hop alot at take off, I think its just because of tire pressure though

are you running huge 17" wheels like in your pics? if so that may be another problem... get some 14-15" wheels with nice tires, LOWER the tire pressure... and see if your still struggling with wheel hop; if you are then try energy suspension motor mount inserts... problem persists; traction bars :) problem solved :)

get back @ the track & record/remember your 60' times!!!

yeah, I'm running 17's (but they're sooo pretty)..... ok, so is there any rims you would suggest? or should I just go get the first set of HX's I can find and slap a dope tire on them?

even just a pair of hx's with some bfg drag radials=cheap & a damn nice track set up... (buy them cheap at discounttiredirect.com or at any discount store with that print out "price matching" from discount tire direct)

or any set of oem 14-15" wheels with some azenis (or comparable tire, but I've yet to find any) will help your times a bunch if you launch right (azenis aren't really drag tires, but they will grip good for an car with under 200whp in a strait line & omg, in the turns, nothing better, falken azenis 615's FTW!!! buy them at vulcantire.com for cheap!)

17" wheels on hatches look absolutely RETARDED, hell 17" wheels on any civic/integra/most honda's look gay as hell and weight a shit load! pointless "looks" mods=GAY. & the larger wheel you have, you'll be more likely to have wheel hop problems, because usually the wheel weighs more & your running a smaller sidewall tire with a lot of air pressure...

I just checked two compression calculators and what ever bseries setup you use, Jdm and usdm b16 pistons have higher compression than Jdm Itr's and Usdm Itr's. Am i the only one that knows this???

Look on the compression calculator on C-speedracing.com and see for yourself. I bulit 3 ls vtecs before and the first had Itr pistons and then I found out B16s have higher c/r so i used them they just dont have the coating like the Itr's do. The last one i built i used Ctr's.
