Right now my hatch has the stock D15Z1 and I wanna swap it but dont wanna go with a DOHC. I have been thinking about the D16Z6, D16Y8, or D17A2. I have been leaning toward D16Z1. So I guess my question would be what SOHC shouls I go with or what would be the advandages of one ovet the other? I wanna keep it N/A, so which would be better for that direction?

Haha!

Go with a Z6.

If you wanna go NA and make a solid amount of power, plan on doing a full bottom-end OEM rebuild with PM7/P29 pistons. That will give you a bit over 12:1 compression with about .005" milled off the head. If that's too agressive, get some PM6's and you'll yield about 10:1.

As for the head, Crower is about the only way to go. Valves/springs/retainers/Stage 2 cam FTW.

If you can, splurge on the SMS header, which is $550 for uncoated mild steel, and makes a bunch of power. If not, just browse EBay and pick up any D-Series header that has a 2.25" collector and wrap it with exhaust wrap.

If you're looking to swap-n-drop-n-go, get a 2.25" collector EBay header and wrap it, get a Crower Stage 1, any CAI, and whatever kind of exhaust you prefer.

Yeah a d16z6 would be the best choice, make your you get a ex tranny too. But i wish you would reconsider the Na route because after you buy all that stuff you could have peiced together a nice cheap turbo kit. Just check out Turbod16.com before you spend any money. Really with sohc's the only way to have good power is boost. You will be happier in the long run.

Yup. Price for price, turbo is the only way to go for D's.

However, if you've got money to burn and love being the underdog and love a lopey idle, NA D FTW.

why would you not want a dohc (simon, ignore this post, don't freak out)? more power for the $$ with more potential...

I just dont want a DOHC, I like the idea of building something that everyone and there mom doesnt have and, parts are cheaper and easy to find. Just seams that everyone is about B-series and now K is the new thing but I just wanna go aginst the grain.

Thanks for everyones input. I am not looking to build a beast of a motor just something to daily drive that will get up and go when need be.

And as far as boosting would i have any advandage to swapping up to a d16z6 from the curent d15z1 before I boost?

The D15Z1 actually has the strongest rods of any D. However, the Z1 has weaksauce VTEC-E. Your best bet for a cheap mod would be to swap a complete Y8 head onto your block and run the whole thing on a P28. You would HAVE to go boost at the same time because your compression would drop to 8.1:1. The Z1 head has REALLY small CC's.

So pick up a turbo kit and Y8 head and a p28 ecu and call it a day? What about a Z6 Head, and will they Y8 head just bolt right on the D15 block?

Hes a z6 or y8 head will bolt on. Just get whatever you can find, I suggest a z6 if your car is obd1, then the dizzy will plug into your harness. Just google mini me and you'll find out all kinds of info.

If your car came stock with a D15Z1, you have a 92-95 Civic VX, which is OBD-1.

^^thats why i consulted you I just relized its obd1. So all I need to do is get the Y8 head from a 96-00 EX, the P28 ecu (From?) and a turbo kit. What all will I have to rewire, or is it all plug and play? And what head gasket do I use?

P28 from 5speed 92-95 ex or si. Yes the head will bolt on but it would be better if you get a complete z6 head that way you dont need to buy a harness or convert yours to fit a y8 dizzy. The z6 will flow better with the turbo as well. You will have to rewire your 02 sensor to a 4 wire. First thing before you do all that i would buy a ex tranny for sure and if your going to turbo it make sure your you have a good clutch or youll be mad later.

If you use a Y8 head, use a B7 (92-95 DX) or B8 (92-95 CX) dizzy. It bolts up properly, unlike the Z6 dizzy.
