yeah no ac in az is not good lol I took it to a shop and its only gonna cost 1100 for them to fix it, im gonna go hit up some junk yards tomorrow and try to find a compressor and do it myself for hopefully cheaper than 1100. either that or time to trade in the civy :(

I have a a/c compressor, all you need to change is the pulley, because it's smashed from one side... don't know if that is possible...but if you could then it's your for free...just need to pick it up....
i think a couple of people got compressors on here, look in the classifieds.

well there is a possiblity that your ac system is now contaminated, which means that you have to replace the whole system.there could possibly be metal shavings in the system after your clutch broke. i know at honda some peop[le pay well over the price you got quoted to get their ac's fixed or replaced. your going to have to evacuate and vaccum the system out to put on the compressor. just some advice tho, be careful with junkyard compressors.

yeah I was affraid of that....couldnt I just get a compressor, take it some where to have the system flushed, then put on the compressor myself? is there a way to tell if it caused contamination or am I just gonna have to do it to be on the safe side?
thanks

Oh yeah about a year ago I had the same stuff happen except the clutch didnt come off the compressor just blew and honda replaced it cause it was under warranty still. Does anybody know if I would have a warranty on the work they did or now that my warranty has expired so did the guarantee on their work.

If your compressor was working the day before it is probably ok. Compressor shafts don't just break, so I'm guessing the bolt holding the clutch on just came off. Give that a check. Maybe all you'll have to do is replace the clutch.....

I know I did check it out and the shaft the clutch goes onto broke flush with the compressor. its real weird, ive never heard of anything like it before.

geese I probably just missed it lol but I got a compressor off a guy on here (cant remember screen name) installed it and now im getting a squeeling sound when the comprssor kicks on so I think it might be bad either that or I messed up the belt installing it. anybody know how to tell if its the compressor causing the belt to make the noise or the pully. I dint mess with the tensioner so I dont think its that but who knows.........ac nightmare lol

you must have a lot of air in it. after you close the lines on the compressor the system is sealed but the air in the lines isnt. need a vacuum pump and that line you got that you used to recharge.
also check your belt if its to tight. i think 1/2 inch play is good. not positive itl say it in the helms i know for sure.

I'm also haveing some AC problems in my 96 dx coupe. When ever i come to a stop the compressor will just turn off, and sometimes when i get the car rolling from a stop it will make a weird grinding noise. For that problem I just shut it off whenever i drop below 20 mph, thats all good but I drive on the 101 during rush hour for 30 miles.
Just a couple of days ago after driving for about 15 miles down the highway some smoke started to come out of the ac vents, not thick smoke, kinda equivalent to someone blowing a drag of a cig out. When I shut the compressor off but leave the fan blowing the smoke goes away. There are no odors from the smoke and the condensation is still able to drip out from under my car.
When I bought the car the guy said that the compressor is only a year old and it seems to be working good, whenever it wants to stay on it blows cold. He did mention that the clutch may need to be replaced.
I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and if the clutch was the culprit. Or if anyone has any great ideas I would love to hear them.

^^^^^^^let me know if if is the clutch you need to replace and ill give you the one that mysteriously fell off my compressor, its perfectly fine just needs the bolt that you already have...I doubt the clutch would be causing the smoke though
