my 91 crx si tranny, coupled to sohc zc I believe is the original tranny with the car so it has 217xxx miles on it took a shit on me this morning. I noticed last night driving home first gear would grind just when slowing down to a stop so I though maybe im not pushin all the way to the floor on the clutch which i was. And this morning same thing happened and then 1st gear felt like 2nd and then from there couldn't get it into anygears. And was able to jack the car and get the shifter moving, but could only drive in what felt like 2nd gear back to my house. Reverse is dead, 5th gear always had a grind. I replaced the clutch not even a year ago. Changed the tranny fluid quite a few times from motor oil, to royal purple syncro mesh, and the last change to penzoil syncromesh, and I changed the fluid not even 2k miles ago. Anyone rebuild these things or no a place. And the price I don't want to be dumping anymore money into this car I already got a quote from 1600-1800:devil:. I would pull the tranny.

I already drained the fluid which was milky brown and ran a magnet which only very few fine particles attached.

Royal Purple is no bueno for D-Series trans. Stick to conventional 10w30.

Sounds like:

countershaft bearing has walked out of the case
1 or more busted shift forks
ISB is bad
trans was ran low on oil for awhile

Tage is fixing me up, tore it open and sure enough fork got chewed up, 5th gear syncro got switched, the forks he had wouldn't fit, ISB is ok, but is going to get replaced. Tage knows his transmissions! Oil was low enough for 5th gear to be overheated.

I'm guessing he had some steel shift forks from a 96-00 trans.

Neutral in all gears basicly. But whatever drives the speedometer gear is turning. Was working good for 2 days.
Reason I say speedo gear is because I got a tunefree ecu which won't rev past 4k without going over 10mph on the cluster.

Happened while going in first gear just as I was accelerating thru and intersection.

Found out it was an axle after Tage inspected the transmission. And then I learned I had the axle cups tall and short the wrong way. I was able to fix it, concerned of some metal particles, but I drained the fluid and I hope the magnet in the case will get it. Kind of sucks after pulling the transmission, but I found I needed a new pilot bearing, got a hookup on alignment tool and new pilot bearing. Im use to building 19k turning weedwacker engines not working on cars to much. lesson learned hard costing me.
