my gsr engages vtec way too early. I had a vafc in it before and had slight tuning to it. ive since taken it out and turned my gears tdc. its now in stock ecu form. i still have all engine mods in it though. it engages around 4200 rpms. didnt start doing this right after i took the computer stuff out, id say around a week later. dont know why its doing this, help?

was your ecu "chipped" prior to going back to stock form?

No it was only hooked up to the vafc. after i took it out i made sure the wiring was correct too.

If its a stock p72 that is about right, the vtec crossover is at 4400

well 4200rpms would be the latest that it usually kicks in, it most of the time crosses over at 3800 to 4000 rpms. i just got done takin a cruise to check exactly when it kicks in. any advice would most likely help.

Do you still have the stock Mani?
Could be IAB opening....Sometimes it sounds like VTEC.

On a stock ecu iab's don't engage till around 5700

Why do you think it is engaging to early?

Idk, i took the vafc out and turned the gears to tdc. for a while it ran like i was pullin an anvil behind the car. felt so damn slow. i was embaressed to even pull up next to a pinto. i had my ecu looked at and found that some vafc wires where not fully removed. i had it rewired and now it runs like it did but the vtec snaps early. would this have anything to with me turning my gears back to tdc? i'm lost on this.

As mentioned before, the stock GSR computer has a hard VTEC crossover at 4400. VTEC can engage at different points based on what position the TPS (throttle) is at. If you are looking at your tach at full throttle and it feels like it is engaging at say 4200 rpm then it may be because the tach is off a bit. This is normal for Hondas. I typically see a difference of +/-200 rpm. Are you running cams other than GSR cams?

You should know that typically a VAFC advances timing, besides adjusting fuel. This can be the difference in what you are feeling in the seat. Check your base timing. If nothing works, my advice is to put the VAFC back in and get it tuned or switch to hondata or Neptune and get it tuned.

i do have cams. i aint putting the vafc back in. i think ill just go with hondata. i figured that would be what i had to do anyways. i was just looking for a temp fix. thanks for the help.
