Whats the big difference between a D16y7 Bottom end from a D16y8 Bottom end besides the y8 being a Vtec?

i think the y8 is the economy vtec block.

but is there a big difference between the crank, rods and pistons on the y7 then the y8? cause im thinkin of putting a y8 head on my y7 if theres not that big of a difference bit if there is ima just go with a complete y8 motor

There isn't ....I've read up a lil on the mini me swap myself because I was going to do it. I hear that they are basically the same thing. The heads and manifolds are the only main difference.

i think the y8 is the economy vtec block.

That would be the Y5.

The pistons in the Y7 are more flat than in the Y8. Both engines have 9.6:1 compression, but the Y7 head has larger combustion chambers. Therefore, doing a Y8 head on a Y7 block will net around (aka - rough guess) 10.2:1 compression.

So would putting a y8 head on my y7 block be worth it? or anyone out there have a complete D16z6 or y8 longblock for sale kinda cheap?
