I'll be there doing Time Trial and Time Attack's in "BlueTeg's" car. Hopefully I don't stuff it in the wall and have to write him a big "IOU". :)

It sounds dirty as hell but we can put my "lightly used rubber" on your car...

Unfortunately my car is going to be down for a bit while I do some... "upgrades".

why run de1 if you have ran before.. especially after driving at the pasa event last weekend.. you dont need an instructor..

SlowCivicHmm
12-18-2007, 08:09 AM
who said anything about an instructor?? I have 1 seat.......lol....

From what I read DE1 is open track w/instructor......

DE2 is drills and what not???

that true?? or did I get old info from the CRA forums....

topramn
12-18-2007, 08:24 AM
de1 is an instructor required class level.. de2 is newer drivers and has 2 open sessions and 2 sessions being split into drills for the first 5-8 minutes and open session the rest of the time.. passing in the main striaghts only..

you should be in hpde2..

SlowCivicHmm
12-18-2007, 09:17 AM
we'll either way I'm going to try to get my 2nd seat and 2nd harness in to have instruction..........

but if not I'll be in de2....

Ditto what Ramen said except that passing is allowed from turn 7-9 and 9 to the start finish. If you have been signed off on DE1 then run in DE2.

12-18-2007, 09:28 AM
you can always have the sturlas, gabe, zollo, or any of the looose boys ride with you and give you instruction during any of the de2 sessions.. and if they dont feel comfortable with your driving, they will send you to hpde1.. but im pretty sure you will be alright..

From what I read DE1 is open track w/instructor......

DE2 is drills and what not???

Yes and no. It is open track, but you must show up for all of the classroom sessions and passing is VERY limited. Its not open track in the sense, that its aimed at people who are just barely grasping the basics of high performance driving on a circuit course, so passing is not something that occurs often during their sessions, hence its not a major emphasis point like it is in DE2/3 where the skill levels and car capabilities are spread out MUCH further.
Cliffsnotes: you've already run with NASA/CRA, you're fine in DE2.

DE2 and DE3 do have drills during the 2nd and 3rd session of the day. (1st session is a warm up session / open track....4th session is a true open session with no drills). If you haven't done the drills yet, don't be so quick to make judgements on them. They only take up the first 5-6 minutes of your session and are great tools to help you advance through the ranks to DE3 and/or DE4/TT. If your schfincter still tightens up when you get 1-2' away from another driver when diving into a corner....odds you still can get some benefit out of them.
Cliffsnotes: sign up for DE2, thats where you belong.

SlowCivicHmm
12-18-2007, 08:56 PM
lol.....my bad I'm not a noooob...

open track I mean, no traffic to worry about...more spaced out....its based more on learning your line w/instructor etc etc...

not open track like balls to wall...ROLL OUT!! my bad....

I'll sign up for DE2.....figured thats where I'd be....but wanted to go through the ranks since last time there was an issue...lol

no biggie...see you guys there!!

*IF* we can't get a full grid, I may talk to Jason and UMS Tuning and we "might" allow DE2 drivers run... Look for details at the UMS Tuning booth on Sat & Sun morning, or talk to me in the garages.

where do i begin?

lets just say today sucked.. we went 20 minutes off schedule first thing this morning.. regrouped, lost our lunch time and kept the tracking moving.. only to lose 50 more minutes after removing lunch from the schedule.. so here is how it all went down..

NASCAR 3-4, engine blows on DE2 car.. car behind him stopped.. car behind that spun.. initial call was 3 cars in the wall or each other.. after it was all said and done, there was no contact but we didnt know so that was red flag incident 1..

shortly after that during race group practice, azht's very own LoooseGSR has his H2 Honda Civic catch on fire and he bailed from the car from what I heard.. he would return later as no major damage was done.. red flag incident 2.. way to go justin! haha.. jk

shortly after that, car spins and contacted wall in turn 4.. driver okay.. k wall moved.. we held out to the end of session cause driver signalled that he was okay.. and cleaned up afterwards..

then a lil later, a green civic which was "extremely clean" (not a word i use often when talking about cars) had contact with the wall and his civic doesnt look that good anymore.. in fact, me and one of the group leaders were checking it out and we dont think its gonna be fixable.. sorry man.. hopefully this doesnt scare you away from driving.. session ended immediately.. no red flag..

at this point we are 20 minutes off schedule.. lunch is taken out of the schedule to put us right back on time..

during small bore race qualify, a car went into the wall in nascar 1, driver was transported to the hospital but is okay.. he did suffer a fracture but i wont get into the details on what he fractured.. here is the details that i will give.. car was totalled on impact, driver was unconscious when i got to the incident.. vehicle has an autopower roll cage that held up during the impact and it did exactly what it was supposed to do.. drivers side door bars that are part of the roll cage did what they are designed to do.. drivers side door was jammed and hindered the safe removal of the driver.. driver door was then removed by hydraulic cutters (sometimes referred to as jaws of life).. driver was conscious when taken to the hospital but shaken up.. red flag incident 3..

mandatory drivers meeting is called and we have a chat about everything that happened so far during the day..

at this point we are 50 minutes off schedule..

track returns to green, i finally get my lunch nearly 1.5 hours after it arrived at the track..

around 330, we start to get a good amount of rain.. day ended peacefully after that around 515 with the exception of a few break downs but i will take those over crashed cars and drivers in the hospital anyday..

note** the reason i bolded the autopower cage is because there has been recent posts regarding roll cages and people have made comments that an autopower is not safe like a custom cage is.. the accident i saw today proved that the autopower is functional for high speed impacts..

There are a few of us de2 guys that could handle time attack(i just keep myself in 2 and not 3 so i do not cause any more traffic than there already is..)I do not see why its limited to de3 and above;if i wasnt yakking bile id be there this weekend also.

Because the majority of DE1 drivers go to DE2 after 1-2 days of driving. Most (not all) do not have enough driving experience to let them drive on track when they know they are being timed and make to many mistakes. So far "Time Attack" has a perfect record after 3 years and I want to keep it that way.

Having the rule say "DE3 and above" sounds better than "no dumb ass on track".

Additionally, if you hold up traffic in DE3 you likely will be very far off the pace with even the slower cars in TA, and will delay the event (this is the reason for limited entries). If TA is not full, "seasoned" DE2 drivers can be allowed as long as it's cleared by either me or UMS Tuning (<--TA sponsor).

Lets just say that to be competive in TA......you'd better bring your A game!

Group C was fast with fast time being a 1.08...2nd-4th were all in the 1.10 range...separated by 6/10th of a second total time!

It was nice to see CJ out there in his uber clean EG running group 3 and TA!
Also Ivan was out in his clean S2k

Because the majority of DE1 drivers go to DE2 after 1-2 days of driving. Most (not all) do not have enough driving experience to let them drive on track when they know they are being timed and make to many mistakes. So far "Time Attack" has a perfect record after 3 years and I want to keep it that way.

Having the rule say "DE3 and above" sounds better than "no dumb ass on track".

Additionally, if you hold up traffic in DE3 you likely will be very far off the pace with even the slower cars in TA, and will delay the event (this is the reason for limited entries). If TA is not full, "seasoned" DE2 drivers can be allowed as long as it's cleared by either me or UMS Tuning (<--TA sponsor).Tage I see where you are coming from after looking over some times. After some thought i think id look like an ass out there in my Si.I think i have enough track time to do it,but im wondering if the car/myself would be fast enough to even bother.... ill talk to Mr UMS more in detail.

Yep, yep... Just keep in mind that DE3 and above will always get priority. DE2 drivers are okay to run with approval from the Sturlanator and pending we're not full... There's your motivation to get into DE3! Honestly though, if you're not keeping pace with DE3, you're going to be near the bottom in TA.

1:08 for class C??? Did Brady set the cruise control for that lap?

Tage thanks for the info. i used to run 3 for a couple years with Jeremy, but then slid back into 2 to get back into the swing of things. I have not been on track a lot the past couple years, but id love to just be able to sort the car out and see what lap times i could run.Honestly with the stars aligned id expect 1:17-1:20. AKA SLOW....Just a bolt on 2000 Si.I just want to get an idea where i sit so i can time the car later down the road after changes and better driving :)

As long as you're running at least 1:19's or faster, I'd say you'll be fine for TA. I'm sure your car is fast enough as lap times are mostly a function of driver. I think ANY Honda with at least 100HP is capable of sub 1:20 lap times with very few mods.

Not to sound overly cocky but I ran a 1:14 at FIR Main with my Civic HB that had a stock D16Z6. It had Koni shocks and springs, R-tires, 22mm rear sway bar, intake and a header (i.e. stock cat and stock DX exhaust). FIR Main and PIR lap times are typically nearly identical. This just goes to show that you don't have to have a K-series or a B-series or superwhammidyne coilovers and an open header with no cat for the car to be capable of respectable lap times.

I'd love to see more Honda's in TA!!! I am willing to work anyone that is looking to lower their lap times. I'm absolutely floored that after working with Gabe (long time NASA Instructor), we were able to knock over 2 seconds off his previous best lap time ever.
