View Full Version : Turbo AP1 Back From The Dyno!

Took the 01 to the dyno this weekend for some tuning and pulled some decent numbers. At the wastegate pressure of 4.5 PSI it hit 285WHP and 185WTQ, at 7 PSI did 315WHP and 204WTQ and finally at 10 PSI spun 355WHP and 237WTQ. Not too shabby. On the 10 PSI run they let off at 8K because it wasn't getting enough fuel volume, so after a Walbro 255 install it should make in the 370+ range at 10PSI. I will work on getting the vid and dyno graph loaded onto the computer but for now here are some pics.

Yeah, internally stock. Garret T3/T04E .60/.63 60 Trim on a PFAB top mount manifold, Tial 38mm Gate recirculated into exhaust so it's not obnoxious loud, 3" Downpipe to custom full 3" mandrel bent single exhaust, AEM EMS, AEM Tru Boost Controller and AEM Wideband gauge. Headgasket might be in the future so it can be cranked up to 15 PSI or so, then 420+ at the wheels. But for now it's loads of fun.

Guy named Jeremiah did the tune at Apex or Addictive Racing (whatever they call themselves now). It's a Dynojet if that's what you are asking.

did you buy a turbo kit or was it pieced together? how much did you spend on your set up

S2KRAZY
02-07-2008, 07:21 AM
Pieced the kit together instead of just buying a kit. Most kits had good features but each kit seemed to be lacking in a certain area. What I mean is, this one kit had a good manifold, good turbo but poor engine management this other kit had decent manifold, good turbo but only allowed for a 2.5" downpipe. It worked out better by piecing it together, it allows you to pick and choose. It ended up costing a little over $5K including the AEM EMS, AEM gauges, all exhaust work. That doesn't include the cost of the clutch or tuning, radiator fuel pump and other little misc. things to help complete the setup.

How do you like the AEM Boost controller? Any issues with it? Why did you opt for it if you are able to control boost with the AEM EMS?

S2KRAZY
03-24-2008, 07:49 AM
I'm not sure if it's the same Jeremiah but he has a 1000+ WHP Corvette right now.

The boost controller is simple to use and is a good quality controller. Funny story about it though, it wasn't what I originally ordered. AEM makes a boost gauge and they also make the boost gauge/controller. I originally ordered the boost gauge, but the company I bought it from, sent me the boost gauge/controller instead. Funny thing is the controller is worth about $200 more msrp on the AEM website so it was an error in my favor. Using the boost controller on the EMS works just fine but it's so much easier to press a couple buttons on the gauge to adjust the boost. It sucks to pull the door sill off, then take the kick panel out, then pull EMS down to access the serial plug, then load the different boost map, etc., etc. you get the point. Additionally, if you want to control boost via the EMS, you need to purchase a boost control solenoid. So the cost of buying a boost gauge on top of the cost of adding the solenoid would have been more expensive than just buying the TRU BOOST controller. Also, when you get something better than what you paid for, it's kind of nice.

Was only able to pull a 13.104 at 114MPH unfortunately. Street tires=terrible 60' times. Car ran strong though. The 13.104 race was against my brothers 88 CRX HF with a semi built B18C1 with a 65 Shot Zex wet setup. He made 234 WHP and 195 WTQ. He got the jump with a 2.0 60' with his drag radials, but from that point, it was the closest race I had ever seen or been a part of. I could have swore that I got him but I didn't. I ran the 13.104 at 114 he ran a 13.102 at 114. Of course he hit the hazards all the way back to the parking lot after the race like a dickhead.:pissed: Oh well, the next run, he ran a 12.795 at 114 so he would have beat me anyway. Looking for a set of drag radials so I can get some better 60' times and hit a mid to low 12 hopefully.

Uh, what?? Of course I was taking it to 9K.

Slicks would be nice but broken S2K parts are a lot more expensive than broken EF parts. My brother has been ready and waiting for you, so when is the race? He wants to know when he can take that $25 off your hands?

114 MPH should be good for a mid to low 12 shouldn't it? I just couldn't get out of the hole.

I was just basing that off the dyno chart & you stating that you were going to add a walbro & retune with more boost, I didn't see an update with the walbro or new dyno chart, so I just assumed...

slicks or DR will help your launch a lot, but launching the s2k with real power will tear up that diff, so just be aware... trapping at 114 can obviously get into the 12's, how far is really up to the 60' though...

Only about 3 years & 9 months before I get my s2k & can join in on the rwd fun.

Oh yeah, I guess I forgot to update it. After the Walbro went in it made 360 horse and 237 torque. I would have to agree though, Honda sure didn't design the S2000 with drag racing as its priority. It is for sure a road race chassis, but it was fun on the strip. There was actually another turbo S2K out there that night. It was an AP2 with an Inline Pro turbo kit running 13PSI, but he was afraid of breaking something so his best time was a mid 14. There was also an N/A hardtop S2K with an exhaust and maybe an intake and header, best time I saw him run was a 15.1, so I don't feel too bad about my time.

So last night he was cruising around and got a light with an Evo MR. There were two people in the Evo and 2 in his S2K. The Evo didn't seem to want to race at first but when the light changed at about 15MPH the Evo mashed the gas and they raced to the top of 3rd. The Evo got a huge jump due to the AWD but he pulled him in and beat him by about 2 and half cars at the top of 3rd.
