View Full Version : JDM GSR Questions?

I just bought a JDM B18C. It is stamped 93 on the head. I was told it is obd1, is that true. I thought obd1 was 94-01 or something like that. I also bought a new GSR header that does not fit? Should I have bought a 94+ GSR? I am wondering if this is the engine for me or if I should just sell it, depending on obd factors and availability of parts for that engine. I want to swap it into a 93 Civic hatch. Anyone know anything about the 93 JDM B18C and if it is obd1 or even worth my time to swap it?

my GSR came out of a 95 teggy and it just dropped right in and plugged right up. not a problem in the world (except finding the right ecu). and since my eg was a 92 it already came wired for VTEC.

i don't understand how the header wouldnt fit though, i thought ALL b series headers fit the same.... hmmm

I though all B series would work too? Maybe it is possible that the head on this block is not a GSR? What are the major differences in the B16 to B18c head. this one is stamped 93 on it too. the bolts for the header all look like they line up except the two end bolts are farther apart. Strange ehh??

no pics there bud. who did you buy the motor from and how do they not fit? like not long enough to clear under the oil pan and hits or wrong flange?

Hey buddy, Actually the problem was where the bolts are on the head to meet up with the bolt holes on the header. The bolt holes on header all line up and would slide on perfectly except the problem is that the last hole on each end of the header are farther apart than the screw studs on the head. Make sense?

yes so you got a piece of shit no name header that doesnt fit and you need to drill your own hole on the header. or go get your money back. he probably knew it didnt fit and thats why he sold it. all b series heads are the same on exhaust flange side

Ya thats what I thought too. He said he mounted it up to his GSR in his CRX and the only reason he didnt want it was because the collector was too big and didnt fit his cat, and he mentioned that the 2 cat flange holes didnt line up properly, So I fugured I could reweld that pretty easy for a $50 mint header. there are marks on the header that it was bolted up to a head at all 9 holes.

Ya I checked all that out prior to buying it, P72 93 B18C JDM GSR. Strange thing is that this kid I got it from was a really nice guy and I am a pretty good judge of character and he seemed pretty honest, even had me come out to his house to buy it. Hmm I guess I will have to figure it out when there is more light outside or just take a trip back to Chandler to talk to the kid. Oh well. Thanks everyone for your help, Your all some cool peeps for taken the time to listen to me bitch.

if the head reads P72 and also shows 93' on it, then that would lead me to belive that the head was manufactured in 1993 to be installed in the 1994 Acura Integra. Production for cars begins WAY before the actual car hits the maket.

this is true, i didn't even think about that. if it was an obd0 gsr head then it would have been a pr3 casting i believe.

I just swapped a poor mans type r into my 87 crx and the 4 into 1 dc sport b series header would not reach the bolts on the head so there is something wrong with the match. it hit the pan on the gsr block and missed the B16 head bolts by 1/4 inch.
