Just wondering since my buddy is going to trade in his 7th gen soon. He's trying to decide between an ep3 and a new si. What is the major difference in the motor. Are they both k series motors 2.0? What's the major differences.

Well... same block but everything else is different EP3= 160 hp Vtec on exhaust cam only and kicks in at 2800 rpm (sucks) FA or FG = 198 hp Vtec on both cams I think at 5400 RPM (real Vtec) Go with the new SI tell him to get a 4 door. EP's are really fun but... a total let down. EP's are heavy, crap suspension design (for the car itself), and waaaaayyy under powered. I loved my Egg when I had it, but I was very diaspointed that it did not have Vtec. And lastly if you lower them you have to spend an extra $200 if you don't want the front tie rod ends popping all the time.

The 06+ Si has the K20Z3, not the A2. The K20A2 engine is in the 2002-2004 RSX Type S. The K20Z1 engine is in the newer 2005-2006 RSX Type S. The K20Z3 is different in that it has a balancer shaft, drive by wire throttle, and electric power steering system. The difference in output between the K20Z1 (201hp) and K20Z3 (197hp) is said to be mostly related to the additional inertial mass of the K20Z3's balancer shaft, with some of that loss offset by the gain of the EPS.

Also the Z1 comes wiht the type R final Drive, and I think type r cams. Also the 06 Si's come wiht LSD.

a major HP difference. the new si are great. ep's are good too but not too fast stock. but hey its a k series the possibilities are endless. u can always drop a k24 block on the stock head
