Well heres the situation. I have a buddy of mine that has an 02 civic em2. Dudes credit is pretty fucked right now he's paying a payment with a 25% interest rate. I'm not bullshitting either about the 25%. Anyway he's wanting an SI. Looking for the blue one in a two door coupe with an aero kit. Can anybody tell me realistically what the price tag on one should be. I have seen them from 21,000 all the way to 29,000. I've done a little research and I saw on hondas site msrp should be somewhere around 21,000. I know how haggling works and so, but what is a honest good price to offer considering his situation. This can be new or used from 06-08 depending. I was thinking more along the lines of 17-19500. Somewhere in that neighborhood? Anyway someone give me some feedback I don't want him to get ripped off again 25% is bs.

Honestly I want him to get a used wrx, but he wants an si for some reason o.O

I would wait till he builds his credit a little more because hes gonna get screwed on his interest rate.

So I guess he needs to figure out how much he is upside down on his current car (stealership isnt gonna give shit for it) and how much he gots down.

I got my 08 4door SI for 20,435 befor tax, tags, and reg. I also got tint/ aero kit/extended warranty/ and lojack. In the end it came out to a little over 24.

I got a 4.9% interest rate and my payments are 450 a month. thats with putting 2500 down.

Seriously buying a new car is among the worst investments you make, the day you drive it off the lot it depreciates and unless you got a killer interest rate and put a decent amount down you are most likely allways gonna owe more than its worth.

Oh yeah, tell him to look into insurance also before making a decision....

how much is your insurance he has two collisions that were his fault and a speeding ticket

Anyway I looked up pricing last night. The 24,000 actually seems a little high but you got a good interest rate. According to edmunds.com the average price you should be looking around is near msrp of 21,000 for something brand spanking new with a Nav system. He is trading in an 02 civic hx with around 80k miles on it. Just had timing belt valve job and water pump installed all maintaince done to spec asides from collisions. I'm looking for him to get around 7-8k for his car since they are selling them for around 13,000 right now. This would be after heavy haggling since they will only want to give him about 5. Then I want to try to get them down between the 17-19500 depending on what year si he purchases and miles and so on.

Honestly, if his credit is that bad, it sounds like he got in over his head once already. 25% isn't a reflection of getting "ripped off", it's a reflection of credit worthiness. In that case I'd reassess need vs want.

He was 17 at the time and couldn't pay doctor bills. His parents were stupid fucks and didn't care so they sent him to collections. He's paying now and got his car to try and help rebuild his credit.

what are you talking about I got it for under MSRP (20435). MSRP is not the out the door price your gonna be paying. there is no way he is gonna get an brand spanken new one for 17-19500, for that price range your looking at used. But used is probably the better way to go non the less, you can negotiate the price a little more. My insurance is 235 a month, thats with no accidents/speeding tickets what so ever, but im only 21 so if hes 25 or older im sure that will play a part.

man there isnt crap in those cars for markup a msrp 21,745 invoice is 20,207 that is 1500 or so in markup, good luck getting a honda to go below invoice on a new car most they get 500 over invoice, also he should go pull his credit if he has a less than 600 score kick this idea of a new car, and from my guess he will be less than a 600 maybe a mid 500 and if so no money down i figure a mid 18% intrest rate if a bank will pick him up

he has financing on a car already he's paying 25% anything is better than 25% at this point whether it's 18% or not. As far as price is concerned he doesn't mind something used but if you check out edmunds.com suggested price with nav system is 22,000 on a brand new 08 si

yeah msrp is 22,8XX for the navi si but you got to consider an additional 2-3k on top just for tax alone. just dont want you/your buddy to go into the dealership and think your gonna walk out with a new 08 si w/navi for 22k out the door.

I'm just talking base price of the car not after taxes and tags and so on. I was thinking 17 area on an 06 18,000 area on an 07 or an 08 I think could go for around 19500 was my thinking after looking at cars and a bit of research. I understand he will have to pay taxes and so on.

best advice
tell him to wait it out
and eventually, once everything settles down, it'll be time for a new car.

on a side note, 25% interest rate is fuckin insane man..

Yea I think now that he's been making payments for over a year on his civic that he should be able to get a better interest rate and he's not in collections and stuff now to my knowledge, I just know that for the price that he's paying he could have more and he's interested in something else anyway. He still lives at home anyway so more of a payment doesn't really matter for him, but he is trying to be somewhat sensable

did you run his credit that is where i would start

MrRline2010
04-07-2008, 03:45 PM
I'm just making a guess that his credit is somewhere in the low 600's I really don't know though.

die in a dick fire noob
04-07-2008, 04:08 PM
you can get sent to collections at 17 that's news to me... And low 600's isn't a terrible credit score, it's not good but it's not a 490 which i have seen... and also on a different note, just because the msrp of a car is 19k or 22k does not mean at all that the car will cost that at the dealership. take for instance the 08 fit's... msrp is somewhere near 14xxx you go to the dealership and they are tagged 16445 then you get them to take everything off and you still end up leaving (which i did) the dealership paying 17654 afer tax tag title... this took me an hour and a half to pull off lol. so you probably won't leave there with anything less than 24k if not more than that.

ok I just got a 2008 red coupe si at a 5.9 insterest rate and i got my first bill and it is 400.00 a month and i paid 24,400 with all the taxes an everything I added on like the mud guards or wat ever they call them and a truck tray which i really did not need and just a bunch of little stuff. I think I got it for a good price. The dealership gave it to me for 20,300 just for the car but added all the other stuff. my insurance is only 206.00 a month.

Eh well he's putzing around now I have no idea what he's doing but whatever. If he goes I have enough info now. On another note never ever deal with larry miller toyota. I e-mailed them to get mileage info on a wrx and the fucker has sent me 6 e-mails in 3 days asking me about what I want on the car and so on when i told him it's for a friend and I was trying to get info.
