well what happend was that they did a bridgeport job on the rotors which let them spin to 10k with out overheating, but took power from the bottom end. yes they do suck

what if i boost it?

explode13
05-15-2008, 11:05 AM
they make a turbo kit only for the rx8 . u can put some horse power on rotary and boost insane amount due to the fact they have no pistons and rods and cranks , and are rotored powerd .i had a bunch of second gens that i boosted 25#on daily driver , but if u dont have a good cooling system youll blow it up as soon as u boost .

so to keep it cool i just need an after market radiator, new fan. and ofcourse the turbo kit or what exactly do i need?

explode13
05-15-2008, 11:37 AM
the turbo kit comes complete with evrything u need . but to be safe u need to buy the after market radiator and fan . and u see it will last longer then most rx8 that people turbo

for sure, thanks man

if u buy it i know a shop in cali that will tune it for u ,he charges 300 , and u have to leave it for 2 weeks . but u wont ever have a problem with it again.

quite honestly the RX8 Renesis ENGINE is a piss poor version of the REW engine. Takes quite a bit of re-engineering to get good #'s reliabily out of them. Honeslty i'd leave it stock and get a 2nd gen TII or 3rd Gen if you wish to play with boost :) You could get a TII for the price of the turbo kit alone for that RX8. Just some advice from a fellow rotary nuthead.

Friend of mine has just an intake on his rx8 and puts down mid 14's at speed world. it's not a 15 second car.

lol , my first car was a peripheal ported 13b all motor put 340 ,my t2 put 500 ,i blew the turbo car ,couse it overheated. the rx8 are good for boost . and i know youre not going to sell youre rx8 ,but if u do buy another one buy integra ls one.those are my favorites

Its great for a decent DD, i was simply stating that the RX7 platforms (especially TII's and S6+) are much better turbo platforms. The renesis power yeilds are meger when done reliabily.

TII's are sikkk :)

I'd def keep the RX8 over most hondas too :)

Yea their not the same car as the rx7 I think everyone agree's but if you build the engine up on the rx8 a little bit it can be more than satisfying.

Definetly, IMO just not worth the hassel. A properly turbo'd RX8 can cost well more than a well build TII :) Most kits are 5k+ tuning which can run a fortune these days as tuners are far and few between, not to mention all the other misc upgrades you have to do to keep a turbo rotary alive in AZ (cooling in particular).

who the hell is ravi ,i dont know a ravi, but iknow the thread started about an rx8 and i said if he buys an rx7 he should buy the one from integrals .
well evrybody has their own opinion ,i always liked second gens, and non turbo rotarys, but racing beat did have a bad ass rx8 ,

RX8 barely make 200 whp on the dyno with bolt ons....trying to boost one with the greddy kit is slightly more gratifying about 230 whp.......

engine management is key........

Ravi is right the RENISIS motor blows ass...... compared to the older REW

mazdamaniac has done ok on the RX8 check it out....

BTW I've owned 4 second gen RX-7s 2 NA and 2 boosted.....

cheap and fast

OK, I have to jump in on this conversation.

I own an 04 RX-8 GT and trust me. Mazda claims 230 but in reality you're looking at much less. Combine that with the heat if Arizona and you're lucky to get 190hp. I just had mine dyno'd at UMS in Phoenix a few months ago and I was putting down consistant 180 pulls (and this was on a dynapack).

A friend of mine with about 2k in mods (no boost) was only putting down about 185-190. This included intake, exhaust, pulleys, midpipe, flywheel, clutch, grounding, coils, and a few other things. I'm sure he could have put down a lot more but tuning was a big issue. Lately, the only tuning software available was the e-manage from Greddy. The ECU doesn't like tuning and was always fighting it. But now, Cobb has finaly cracked the ECU and has put out an Access Port for the RX-8. People are already seeing impressive gains with tuning and exhaust alone. Top that with boost and you're looking at some nice numbers.

Greddy does come out with a nice kit, but it will only get you to about 300 MAX. Mazdamaniac currently sells an upgrade kit for the greddy kit that is good for up to 450hp (safe). Jeff is very knowledgable about boosting the Renesis. Head over to AZMC and hit him up. His screen name is MazdaManiac (surprise, surprise).

Anything else you want to know just ask. I'm pretty sure I can help you out.

P.S. Yes, the RX-8 sucks at the track. Wankles aren't really known for their torque ;).

Far from a POS. GREAT car to drive, and the handling is excellent IMHO. And yes i have driven quite a few of them.My 00 Si pulls on them for the most part, but in my eyes that does not make the Mazda a POS by any means. The one drawback of the car is the terrible gas milage....there is more to a car being capable besides how fast it goes in a drag race..

i love the cars. . they handle nice, their fun, and they look great. they'll keep up with or beat the new si's on a straight line and a track. . plus, they have those back seats for the kids or your drunk friends on new years=)
