For road racing, I think you should go N/A, either a GSR or B20 VTEC setup with a short geared tranny and an LSD. Otherwise you would be looking for a small turbo to take advantage of the off/on throttle style of driving in road racing.

i'd say boost it. the way i see it, who cares at about boost lag, wheather its a supercharger or turbo. either way, your still gonna catch 'em at the end of the straights. Just make sure you can brake as fast as you can accelerate lol

I autocross a boosted Miata and there are times i wish i was NA. It sure makes things more challenging when I fall off the boost, or it comes in when I have the car "balanced" in a corner.

Depending what racing you want to do, you have to consider the competition you'll face. I prefer boost over no boost though. It's more reliable if you take the time to keep your fuel/ignition right.

Boostcreep,
Do I know you.
My little 86 CRX Runs in SM2 up here in PHX.
I've run against a few boosted Miatas.

Depends on your budget, I HIGHLY suggest not going boost if you cannot build a reliable setup. A turbo kit must be maintained on a regular basis and oil changed more frequently due to an increase in usage. The correct oil line sizes and types must be used to provide the specified oil pressure needed to operate the turbo and not leak. You will not be allowed to race if your car leaks fluid from anywhere on the chassis.

It also depends on your driving ability. In NA, you have a dependable powerband and little to no surge in available power throughout the powerband like you do with a turbo'd motor.

Tip from some one who knows, Get it out there FIRST!(STOCK OR CLOSE TO IT) Learn how to drive the car and then make your decision.
