Did you know?
Back in late 2005 I came across an unusual company that had major characteristics that resembled my lifelong favorite sneaker. The Jordan III. There is something about the cement colored elephant skin that draws you in. Makes you want to collect everything in sight that it touches. Brands all over the world have tried to recreate this phenomenon. Of course there is no one on this planet that can duplicate Tinker Hatfield’s and Nikes creation. But there is one that surely comes close.
As you can clearly see Scott Nelson who created this New York based company had the same mind set of many. They obviously fell in love with the print from the first time their eyes made contact with the tough textured material. Instead of limiting himself like many have done prior, he decided to make a whole collection paying homage to the design. That is a minor detail of how Mike 23 was born.
Back in late 2005 when I looked through the Mike 23 online catalog I realized I had to get an interview with Mr. Nelson. I loved everything about his brand and the detail that went in to his products. He would use a combination of aesthetics from so many products that our culture adored. Although the interview never came into play we still kept up with what moves the Mike team was making. One product on the lineup they had I felt was quite genius was the elephant print umbrella. That was definitely one of the visions he had that was so ahead of his time. A man that isn’t afraid to be a pioneer in the game. You have to respect that.
Throughout the years I have come across many perspectives and views on the Mike brand. Some consider it a total play off of Nike and Tinkers creation. Some love what Scott and his team do because it is more of a supply in demand type of asset. So many flock to the elephant print and can’t get enough of it. Mike just provides a service on what they want. I would have to agree with them. I can only think of a handful of brands that lead the way in today’s market. Everything in some way, shape or form looks like retrofitted ideas that have been done over and over again. I have and will always appreciate what Mike does. Not so much for the designs he uses, but more so for the way he can take parts of something amazing and other parts of things that died out and combine it to create something that I doubt the originators would have thought up. Innovation is the way to make your presence felt. There is always someone that can make a good or great concept into an even better product.
Conclusion: I am sure most of you are already aware that the beloved Mike brand is in jeopardy. Nike has ordered a Cease and Desist to the company. You can read more about it here at Murketing.

So, I picked these kicks up for the best price you could even find em for...almost free from a close homie for the LA area. If you dont know about KICKS this isn't for you....This is one of the hardest brands to find now a days. Especially a pair of deadstock elephant Clientele from 2006. These sneakers are being claimed as a prize possession due to the sky rocketing price tag and intrinsic value that they have gained.

As most you Mike fans are aware, the brand has received a Cease and Desist from the Nike Corporation which forces all production and activity to come to a complete stop.
