tons of factors are under "crap"
kids? mortgage? rent? car payments? insurance?live wit parents?
everyone under 21 living with tha 'rents should be good with 10.oo
anyone over 21 with their own spot should be comfortable and non-check2check living around 15.69..

my goal is to make 80-100k just to have that extra income for entertainment and such.

I don't see how anyone can live as an ideal/stereotypical individual making less than 30k a year, even then, when emergencies come up it might suck because you'll have to scrimp and do OT in order to have the money you need. Of course, theres stuff like... taking the bus instead of owning a car, and living with parents, or room-mates.

something more then 35k a year. that is if you are living alone, no kids, and have a small house and a moderate savings plan.

I could not live on less than 30 per hour. Considering that the average American income is just above $48k, I have no idea why you did not post higher rates. I am assuming that most people would not have voted for the highest but would vote for 18-25 or 25-30, but not more than 30-35. Jobs in AZ pay soooo low.

The average family income is in the $40k range....not individual.

What do all you guys do for a living?

I have lots of friends back east with degrees from VERY good schools (ivy league) and now 2-3 years out of school they are making 60-75k in NY and boston. $60k is $29hr...

I find it funny this forum is full of lowballer's and now all of a sudden everyone has great paying jobs:drunk:

at around 21 an hour. depending where your work and how much taxes are being taken out and etc.... your income should be around 32k to 35k. those numbers being from a friend who makes 21 an hour, works 40 hours a week and made 34k last year.

unless your some out of control baller and feel the need to spend shit tons of money every week. thats not nearly enough. but for someone like me and the way i like to live(the simple life)and along with tons of people i know. its plenty for living in this state.

but then again, where i live doesnt bother me, id be perfectly happy living in a trailer with a big garage in the backyard.

Im in the top bracket of this poll and I feel that it is not sufficient. I am 21 and even though I make a good amount of money I get taxed a lot by the government. I can but a house but then I would barely be able to make it by. I'd be eating ramen noodles everyday. lol

I see people on a daily basis that are past the living check to check standard, they are almost 1 or 2 checks ahead of themselves. I would have to say that since I started working at a bank I've become much smarter with my money. I do spend it, but at the right times.

back when work was nuts about 3 years ago i used to make about $19 an hour....i used to get a ton of ot and bonus so i made damn good money....i bought me a house, nice cars, all kinds of vacations and spent freely..i went from making almost $80,000 in 06 to making $40-50,000 a year now.....i used to live paycheck to paycheck when i made the most....reason being i spent as much as i made but now i have adjusted to not making as much and have actually been able to save a ton of money in 401k,ira's, and savings.....

i am single and i think you have to make at least $40,000 a year to live good....

I work salary and pull about 34k/yr working about 32 hours a week, sometimes less and sometimes WAY more. Between my g/f and myself we pull in a little over 73k/year and we most certainly have tough times but, we have the house, 2 dogs and now 3 vehicles. This is also the first house I've ever lived in so we've had a bunch of expenses on weird shit like lawnmower, weed eater, yard tools ect...
Having the 240 doesn't help b/c when ever I get some spare money I seem to always put it into that, and she has a HUGE family so it seems like someone has a birthday every month in which we have to spring for.

It just seems to be the american way nowadays. everyone always wants bigger and better, from bigger house, cars or certain brands that people want to be accustomed too, at some point or another everyone makes unwise decisions with money. I'm sure there are several youngins that get paid good money and live it up (30k milli's) but have absolutely ZERO net worth or retirement/long term savings set aside. I see several people come in making well in the $50k range come in to question overdraft charges before paydays, mostly females. You'd think it's because they don't make enough yet they'll come in with well manicured nails, designer purses and sunglasses and clothing. I give subtle attempts at offering them some saving options but to no avail of course, no one has time to prepare themselves for the longrun.

hey thanks for coming in here and doing the math. but i did say "depending where your work and how much taxes are being taken out". income would be 32k to 35k after taxes. wich would be actual money people are able to use and spend. there talkin about how much would be good to live on. after taxes checks are 650 a week.

so here you go jared 650x52=33800.

mo money mo problems. when u expand your income your spending habits expand with it for most people. no one thinks about living a meager/average lifestyle and as your income expands, your investments and savings expand instead of your current lifestyle.

i'm at $13.10 hrly, with the ot they offer us i do maybe 30-32k yearly, maybe more this year as of the first check in june i was at 17.5k. lady works and does about the same 30k a year. so i would say we float around 60k yearly, and we do ok. sure more money would be nice but we live good i would say sometimes stretch it a lil far.

people saying they struggle a lot with a house hold of 2 making 50k ish a year, are living way beyond their financial life style imo

If the wife and I were making anywhere close to a 6-figure income, we'd be VERY comfy. I pull in 50/60-ish and the wife, baby and I live decent. I am the sole income provider since the wifey watches the baby 24/7. But we do have our struggles every now and then.

I make like 25k a year working part time. I go to school full-time though which is far more worth the opportunity cost of me working full-time with no education. I'm 3 years deep in school now, after about 3 and 1/2 more years I should be making close to 6 figures out of school. If I worked full-time I'd maybe make 35k. No chance would I settle for 35k a year for the rest of my life, that's just not enough to comfortably raise a family on and retire at a decent age with a large sum of money.

This is probably gonna piss a few people off, but if you're struggling as a single person on your own with no financial commitments and making 50K a year you are living WAY over your standard of living. You should not be struggling at all at 50K a year if you have no wife or kids. 50K/year should be enough for a family, let alone a single person.

Yes, i have a family just like everyone else on this planet. Do I have kids? No. I have no kids because I cannot afford one. It's a rather simple choice to make. My sister was a single mom and had two kids and lived off 35K a year, so let's cut the "a family can't live off 50K" shit please.

Plenty of families live off 50K/year all the time. A car enthusiasts board is not exactly the place to find people that live well within their means, especially when you have a bunch of young people that dump 50% of their income into a depreciating asset to simply make it faster.

I'm well aware of the concept of a family living well under $50k.. I'm sure I was in poverty during my childhood.

Once you have kids, and realize the bills and the other bullshit that comes.. You'll realize that even $50k is pushing the limits.. especially if you don't have health insurance.. which some ridiculous amount of Americans don't have these days.

to live comfortably with kids, car payments, insurance, house payments, student loans, blah blah blah, you should be making over 45,000 a year to live in a safe zone. I myself am only making about 36,000 which sucks cause i barely make enough to cover all of our bills.

As stated by Mafioso, RETIREMENT people. If you don't have a program setup, DO it now. I contribute 7% of my income to retirement since I'm young and can afford it, I swear I don't even miss it. If you get on a nice plan, you can retire a millionaire. Pay yourself first.

I am married with 3 kids, I bring home 45k a year, and my wife brings home about 35k a year (she works from home so no daycare expense). I put 6% away towards my 401k, and have REALLY good health insurance. We pay 10% of our earnings to tithing at church. Other than cars and our new home we do not buy big things unless we save up for them first, or pay cash that we have available. Other than gas for my car I limit myself to $20 every 5 days (work week). KEEP YOURSELF OUT OF DEBT and you will be amazed at how far you can stretch your money.
