I'm looking for separate answers from individuals, and 2 person and more families.

I'm curious as to how much you or your family spend on groceries each week, or month. What kind of stuff do you buy? How do you save money on food? Have any cheap recipes?

It seems the lowest amount of money I spend for and my girlfriend is about $80 a week, some people say they spend about $120 a week on food, and the family I live next door to spend at least $200 a week on groceries.

my roomate and i share everything in the house.

i would say every two weeks we spend about 115$.

we buy bread loafs, nice artisan bread, and some hot dog buns
we buy hot dogs, sliced sandwich meat, and cheeses
we buy some type of pork, chicken, and/or beef cut (two of three will be frozen)
we buy bagged lettuce, and frozen vegtables
we also buy canned meats, chili, rice, and other starches

i just buy only items that are on sale (club cards) unless you need a specific item for a dish or something

a big bag of string cheese
a bunch of talapia
a big pack of chicken "when its cheap"
deli meats and deli cheese

sardines
and 2 cases of water and sometimes a 6 pack of dr pepper

everyday i take the same shit to work
1 sandwich
1 string cheese

1 yogurt
a handfull of grapes

that takes care of my monday -friday...when i get home i will usually cook some fish or chicken or if im lazy just make a tuna sandwich

on weekend i usually stay with my GF so i just eat there

before when i ate like shit i used to spend soooo much money on cookies, soda, snacks, milk, energy drinks, bacon, hot dogs etc....

every since i started eating what i eat i save sooo much money because on top of what i used to buy i used to spend about 6-$10 on lunch everyday

About 120 a week for my daughter, my lady, and myself. Reason we spend so much is people just come over and start going through our pantry and fridge and eat all our shit. That's gonna change starting this week i'm tired peeps eating up all our food! lol.

My wife and I + a 3 month old baby.
Formula isn't too bad (Costco has generic brand 2 large cans for $20!).
We spend about $125 every 2 weeks. We cook everything from enchiladas to hamburgers, to orange chicken with rice/veggies, steak with mashed taters and mac n' cheese, etc.

Shit like that. If you sit down and figure out how many meals you need, then make a list, you can control your costs BIG TIME.

Costco ramen suprise, buy a bulk of ramen and they have like a 27 pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts for about $22 bucks. Good for about a month of dinners.

honestly your actually losing money if you really think about it. im government property too and used to think the same way.

you do actually pay for food but you never see it come out of your check, also the "mess hall" isnt always open so you have to eat on their schedule.

as for rent, if you live on base then of course you prob wont pay anything but take it from me. i decided to move off base with a couple friends into a house that accommodated 4 ppl with rent being 1100 a month (275 per person). well when i finally processed to live off base the military gave me 900 bucks for housing, 250 for food allowance (since i will no longer eat for "free" at the mess hall), and on top of that i still get my base pay which goes by your rank. housing and food allowance is once a month but base pay is just like food stamps, every 1st and 15th!!

so if you look at the big picture your losing money the more you stay on base

granted. but currently i dont have rent to pay for nor do i have to worry about food.. its not hard to eat on "their schedule". all i have to worry about is my car payment. insurance, and phone bill... more money for toys. PLUS IM NOT ALLOWED TO LIVE OFF BASE

are you deployed at the moment or within the states? it was almost an act of congress for me to move off base!! i waited for almost a year before they allowed me to move off base.
