Did a B16A2 swap into a 96 EX.

We used the EX engine harness.(P2P Vtec)

We used a P72 GSR ECU

For some reason the car idles like crap. Barely 200 rpm.

I install the EX ECU P2P and the car idles great.

Any help is appreciated.

a p72 is a gsr ecu
unless it is chipped then it wont run the b16 properly

So the P72 has to be chipped?

Would another alternative be running a chipped P28 with an OBDII Jumper harness?

Great, so I have a SI and GSR Ecu that I can't use.

Just use the P2T ecu, its for a b16

The P2T ECU ran the motor fine. But the instrument panel went nuts, no guages, SRS and oil lights on, check engine, etc.
I later found ou that the P2T is not compatible with the 96 Chassis Harness. I got rid of the SI engine harness, installed my EX engine harness, and am running my EX ECU (SOHC Vtec)

I do not want to re-wire the entire dash harness, and I don't know if the P2T can use jumpers. Pretty sure the P2T will not work

I really want to know how to make the GSR ECU work. Can this be jumpered/Chipped? Cost? Availability?

Otherwise I need to unload (2) ECU's and pick up a CHIPPED P28 with an OBDII Jumper. I really would like confirmation on what type of program to chip.

Thanks for everyone's contributions

what obd is the gsr ecu?

a p72 will run a b16 just fine. not optimal because the fuel and timing maps are set for a slightly larger engine with IAB, but people drive h22s with a stock p28. now that's crazy, a 1.6 sohc program running a 2.2 dohc.
so you must have a 96-99 p72 because in 2000 they got immobilizers which your 96 chassis doesn't have. same for a p2t ecu. if you started the car with either of these, you have somehow disabled the immobilizer portion of the ecus.
the cabin harness has nothing to do with the ecu. it sounds more likely you have an obd 2b ecu and you plugged that in and since the plugs are the same but the pin locations are different, it made your dash pretty excited.
you can't chip any 96-01 ecus, only 92-95.
a 96-98 jdm p30 will plug right in but......
i have chipped, ready to go obd 1 ecus for 180. the conversion harness is 65.
you're also welcome to come by monday with all your ecus and i'll take a look and then we'll get it figured out.

It is a 96-99 P72.

I am not sure if you are willing to trade the P28 for the two other ECU's I have, if not, I guess I have to sell them first. I have frigen 3 ECU's that are pretty much useless to me, don't need to buy another until I can get rid of these!

I believe you are talking about anti theft features (imobilizers) on the 99-00 models. If so, not sure how plugging the ECU disabled this feature, but I guess we will have to see. The motor started fine with the GSR ECU, just had a poor idle and dash wash not working.

not your only option but would work the best

chipped p28 with jumper

and get it tuned
