My girlfriend got into an accident about 3 weeks ago. The other driver totaled her car and we are now dealing with their insurance company(Alstate). She had a 99 Ford Taurus and they want to give her 2700$ for it. That was their only offer and they wont budge on it. She has yet to go to the doctors office and has a bad knee. They couldnt give her a rental car due to the fact she is only 19.

I belive that she should be intitled to more money than just 2700$ for the car. Since they wont budge on the price, I think its time to bring a Lawyer into the situation. Do you guys think we have a chance with this or should she just take the money.

Also, anyone who has been in this situation and used a Lawyer who would you reccommend?

I went with Hastings & Hastings. They have the lowest rate/% and they have been doing an awesome job with my case. 6024395267

Thanks, ill check them out. I know 2700$ isnt a lot of money but its not really enough to get a good car.

You have to fight with the insurance. I was offered 2700 at first for our 99 coupe. After about a month of fighting we got 6700. Hastings can handle the vehicle portion as well, but they charge for it. Im dealing with Farmers currently. Its pretty sad on how they are handling the situation considering their client rear-ended me drunk at 8:15 am in front of 3 officers, and this is her 3rd DUI and she is only 25.

Depends on how much you want to spend to get paid. Hastings & Hastings has a good rep for getting the job done but this is not going to be a firm looking out for your best interests. But like I said, they might get you what you want. If it were me, I would be getting paid from the ins, the other driver, his ins, and any one else who stepped on my toes. My lawyers are not cheap but they never loose and they get the max $$. PM me if you are not on a budget.

I'm just looking to get 4k$ for the car and then whatever expenses for the lawyer. Ive never had a lawyer so I don't know what to look for. I do know that she only had liability through her Insurance so we cant go through them.

I do think we could get some money out of this for her knee though. They havent sent her to a doctor and have not pushed the issue. She works for the city watching kids so its going to be a problem for her.

if you are only looking for 1300 more than what they are offering a lawyer might end up costing more in fees than he may be able to win you.

A lawyer will get a higher settlement, but pretty much all of it will go in to their own pocket and this shit will drag out. I gotta tell you, a 99 Taurus isn't really worth more than that. If you really want, you can hire your own appraiserto evaluate the car. The only thing is, you will have to pay for the appraiser and you may not get any more for the car. As far as the injury to her knee, no insurance company is going to push her to go to the doctor. If she has to miss work to make a doctors appointment related to the accident, the insurance company would owe her for missed work.

It sucks, but 2700 is a pretty reasonable price for a 99 Ford Taurus. I hope your girlfriend wasn't financing it for more than what it is worth.

I just saw they couldn't get her in a rental, she should ask for loss of use instead. The insurance co. should pay her about $20/day for a few days for loss of use, this is money they would have paid her for a rental if she was older, so they owe something.
