Greetings AZHTer's:

lately I have been wondering what I should do once I graduate next May. About 80% of me thinks that, first things first, I need to get out of AZ and get a fresh start somewhere else. I've lived here half my life and never have been a desert type of cat.

Anyways, my question:

Do any of you guys have a lot of experience in and around Denver, CO? It is up there on my top list of cities I am interested in moving to.

Can any of you guys comment on the:

- downtown area
- night life
- housing costs
- crime
- job opportunities
- anything?

THANKS :bananaman:

THANKS :bananaman:

Downtown: Much cleaner than AZ's downtown in my opinion and because it's not 120 all the time people actually walk around outside. Downtown pretty much consists of 16th street iirc. some nice shops and what not. Not as busy as scottsdale downtown I don't think, but nice.

Night life: Denver is a popular town to grab a coors light *imagine that* There are a couple themed clubs i know so it just depends what you're looking for.

Housing costs: depends where you go. I lived in Littleton (southwest denver) - east side of Denver is cheaper. West side more expensive but nicer and closer to the rockies. I had a nice apartment with AMLI 2 bedroom I split with a buddy of mine. cost about 1100@ mo with a 7mo lease and a 1car garage. Apartment finders is a company you can call / has a website and they can help you find whatever in Denver area.

Crime: I never had an issue but I still kept my GSR in the garage. 20th street area near i-25 is basically the downtown ghetto west of the freeway where all the crack deals go down and is of course right down the road from where I worked haha but I never had an issue with the car getting busted into or anything but it still happens so whatever you're driving just be careful.

Jobs: Denver is actually pretty diverse. Jobs are tough everywhere right now, but depending on what you are looking for Denver probably has something interesting. Check out Denver craigslist.

Anything else: I spent most of my life in phoenix Denver weather is a welcome change. The snow isn't bad. In fact it's so dry up there that that snow typically lasts one day, and it'll be 40 the next day and 55 the next day. The snow melts quickly. Still... pop for some snow tires or a 4x4 if you plan to stay awhile. It's really pretty similar to flagstaff if you have spent any time up there.

Hope that helps. I'll try to post up more answers if you have more questions.

I lived there from 1980 to 1987 and I go back regularly as my family is there.

- downtown area
Denver is much different from AZ in the fact that they have culture. People actually LIVE downtown, whereas people LEAVE our downtown when the sun goes down. However, it's not really the safest place, see my next item

- night life
I love Denver's nightlife. Downtown has some of the greatest clubs under the SOCO umbrella (South of Colfax). The Church is a very famous club and is my favorite club in the Nation aside from Rain at The Palms in Vegas: http://www.coclubs.com/

I've been to The Church, Vinyl (awesome club), Milk, and two:am. All awesome clubs, however, while being downtown a few times I have consistantly been offered drugs in parking lots, heard gunshots, seen fights, and hit and run and DUI's. It's pretty crazy

- housing costs
Depends on where you live, however, my Grandparents place in Northglenn sells for 187k and would be worth 300k here easy.

- crime
I can't say on Hondas or life in the suburbs, but downtown was shady.

- job opportunities
Prolly depends on your skillset

- anything?
Six Flags, the Worlds biggest Waterworld and snowboarding! If I wasn't always reminded how old everything is there when I visit I'd move back. I love visiting, but I'll never move back.

Denver is awesome and AZ is shit by comparison. I lived there until I joined the military in 00'. I want to end up there sometime soon. FYI Bandimere Speedway is 5,900' above sea level. N/A cars run waaaaay slower up there.

:goodpost:

Yeah I never went out to bandimere when I was up there but I can attest to my gsr which was never "fast" to begin with, was quite sluggish. Guys in turbo Tegs would roll up to me on the freeway and rev ... alot. Bastards. Haha, but seriously. I loved driving it back to az to visit fam because the car felt like it ripped so hard after Denver.

I lived in Denver for more than 16 years, I miss it everyday, the winters are cold as shit, but the summers are great. If you like snowboarding, biking, hiking, camping, anything outdoors than yes go to Colorado. I was thinking about going back myself!
