98% likely a recent escaped pet. Even though from aus they would have a tough time surviving in the wild after generations of being reared in captivity, and since he didnt mind being approached and held and never scattered away hints to that too.

That's a horned toad. Seriously, be careful. They're protected, and if you get caught you can get in big trouble. Plus, if they have babies, they're impossible to care for. The mothers will inadvertantly eat their young, and they suffer from lizard seizures. It sounds weird, but it's true. They look like they're stretching but they're having a catatonic seizure. It eventually kills them.

So yeah, they're cool but they're very hard to care for.

Horned Toads are actually very easy to care for in captivity . I had a female for a year a couple years back . Also pretty sure they aren't protected in AZ , Ive heard New Mexico and Texas they are endangered.

Did some research deffinitly not native here . Most likely he could survive here though . Ive seen green iguanas that live here in the desert fine .

Pretty good read about native lizards http://www.reptilesofaz.com/herp-lizards.html

Also only endangered Horned Toad and the most amazing looking one is the Flat Tailed Horned Toad

Damn that's weird. When I found the ones I caught downtown, pet store manager said it was horned toad. I thought it was a bearded dragon but everywhere I looked online said it wasn't native. Now that I look them up, it's definitely a bearded dragon. Still, the one I brought home was a pregnant female.

So, yeah.

any luck with the eggs

I was gone for almost 2 days when the babies were born. I didn't see any eggs, figured they were in more of an embryonic sac. Or the mother ate the leftovers.

For real. They are quite sought after, and breeders can make some decent cash. To the OP, PM Caveman( mike) on here, because if my memory recalls correctly,he used to breed/sell these things and did pretty well for himself doing so.Hell,a local place by me is selling babies for around 55 dollars and full grown adults for 100ish.
