well i usually dont ever post things i cant research but i want to know what all the boost experts think about this setup
i am going to be using a complete z6 with arp hardware studs and rod bolts. If i have a t3 turbo just boosting 6 lbs daily and 10-12 on track days with a good tune. I have heard of bad things with stock rods but will the arp rod bolts make that big of a difference and will they support 220whp?

id stick with 9 all day every day do some rods and pistons boost that shit to 15psi if ur motor has low mileage

my friend had his z6 completely stock with a block guard, intake manifold, fuel rail and regulator on a full greddy turbo kit. hey tuned it to run on 12 pounds, and he never had a problem....if i was you....id tune 9 and stay there......that other guy sounds right

low boost is fine on a single cammer with a good tune, but beware of the toothbick rods!! you might changer your mind if you ever see a stock d series rod! be cautious if its your daily :)

thats what i was thinking i have heard so many stories about not the rod bolts being a problem but the rods seem to break in half

If you do internals, dont just do the rods and bolts, do a whole bottom end, and honed out slightly, with some pistons as well, then you can boost 12+ all day

if your going to take the time out to put rod bolts in then u might as well put them on some better rods

just get some tuner toy rods. they are priced very fair and can support your goal of 220hp

it will be fine under low boost

you should reach your goal no problem and have a very dependable dd if done right

d series has a very large amount of potential but most people look right past them

lemme know if you need anything else

it will be fine but not for a long time, my motor lasted a year on twelve pounds then BOOM threw a rod, i would say just but some cheap ok rods then you should be fine for longer

x2, if you really want good rods go with the crower rods + ycp pistons

Yeah but he's not tryin to make a track car.
You don't really need anything fancy, but they would be nice to have I would say.

well ofcourse this engine would only see 6lbs daily and 10-12 on track nothing to big..well i am gonna see how much i can find some nice rods for hopefully a used set for 180 or less so ill be using the stock 9.1 compression pistons with new rings and bearings. Arp headstuds and stock head hoping to get 180 whp at 8 psi with a nice t3 or t25

but plzzz dont use a FMU

guy on here name robert aka hush22 ran a 12.5 correct me if im wrong brother. on a completely stock motor on 20lbs.. but correct me if im wrong robert

check out turbod16.com

i learned a lot from that site before i ran out of money to boost. 220whp is about the max you want to take it on a completely stock d series.

180 for rods?
man, that's a tight budget. seriously, if you don't have the money then don't turbo, you will simply blow your motor up. How much do you have saved up for a tune? or do you plan to use a FMU + missing link, seriously. Have you done a compression check? leak-down? how are your seals? I just dont want to see another ruined sohc b/c ghetto-rigged short cuts.

My co-worker has been driving his boosted eg on 13psi for over a year now. It's a bone stock Y7 that was sitting outside for god knows how long, has been driven with the oil pressure light on solid, and has never had a single issue. On 13psi with a stock sr20det red top turbo, he made 210whp, 220ft-lbs. Stock can be reliable, with a LoCash tune :)

180 for a used set of rods is a definite considering tunertoys sells them for 220 new and eagles 270 new. And no money is no issue i dont have alot of bills and i get paid decently. A compression check could not be done since the whole motor is apart. NO to the FMU a locash p28 would be used and i have quite a bit saved up. i have been recently talking to a guy on dseries.org and i have been wanting to get into Autox and time attack. so i am considering doing that more then drag right now so not looking for alot of power just RELIABLE power. Thankyou guys for all of your help it is much appreciated and for the veterans that chimed in thankyou will be starting a build thread soon

i have a Y7 block with eagle H beam rods, vitara pistons, and a D15B vtec head. im gonna be running any where from 18-25 PSI and shooting for around 400 HP. and i hardly have any money into this build. you can build a nice SOHC engine for fairly cheap. alot cheaper than B series.

Thats wassup! Are the eagle rods longer than stock... Im trying to figure out how to up the compression ratio because vitaras with stock length rods is 7:1....not good for boost... I know you can mill the block and thinner gasket, but FJT has custom rods taht give 8:1 comp. Jsut wondering how you did it. Help me out thanks

just keep your stock internals go get it tuned at locash start with like 6psi and keep turning it up untill you reach 210 to 220 whp you will be fine just don't trash on the car 24/7 if you want more hp then build the block but not if your not going above 220

interesting you say this. many have turbo'd and never had that many problems. I've been fine for a year and a half, compression is still good and runs solid. didnt you tune on kpro, as well?

Some people have problems right away, and some will never see them.

It's all a game of chance when every modifying any vehicle.

I had a single cam vtec d16z6.
ran 8 pounds reliably for 8 months with still no problems.
when I first did the dyno it ran 210 hp.
I think one of the most crucial factors is the tune. Don't cheap out on it I would go hondata s300 for boost
