So in short, I found a great deal on Some 05+ Sti rims with tires. 17x8 +53, clear brembos and all that good stuff. Forged BBS 17.5lbs a rim. Came with good condition 6-7/32s on Potenza RE70 tires. 225/45/17 but they look like 235s fo sho. Awesome wheel for DD or track.

Downside is I need to machine the hub out from 56.3mm to 64.1mm.

Should I spend $200 to get these machined to fit? I already have 2 sources that will do the work. Will require 5mm spacer to fit with enough clearance to shock. To run camber bolts up front I would have to use a 10mm spacer which would still work and be about a perfect fit but will require extended wheel studs which I should get anyways since I will be tracking the car. I shouldn't need spacers in the rear but I haven't test fit back there yet. Prob will tomorrow.

These pics aren't the greatest, sorry. I'm still figuring out how to get the best photos with this newish Sony Cybershot.

After wheel was sinched up with lugs evenly, there was room for a 5mm allen pluss a tad slop. We'll call it a straight 5mm.

being that the wheel is already spaced out 5mm from rotor which was bolted to hub, we are left with about 6mm clearance b/t shock and tire. Perfect!

another 5mm space might allow for camber bolts to be used up front but I think I'm just going to get camber plates.

Clearance rear of front wheels

With 3 deg camber and +53 offset wheels spaced out 5mm I think this would rub on the front inside fender.

I think I am going to have to get 15mm spacers from and replace my wheel studs as well. poop!

White? They are bright silver, practically white, one of the reasons I like these wheels so much besides I got them for mad cheap, they're forged, they're different than what everyone else is running and on top of that they are BBS baby:bananaman:

Have you looked into springs or coilovers?

yeah but I haven't made up my mind and I think I need to save up for them. I have expensive taste!

I'm thinking Redshiftmotorsports Koni Yellow kit.

I haven't found any coilovers that really scream out with quality and value. If KW made a setup, I would probably be buying those.

Another reason I haven't really liked the idea of going coilovers is b/c I am not sure that you can get away from actually decreasing wheel space b/c of where the coilover perch and spring location. If someone can prove to me that 400# 6" springs do not take away from wheel clearance, I will look into full coilovers more.

What about TEIN Flex?

berny2435
10-20-2008, 06:28 AM
No Tein for me. Maybe their monoflex coilovers but they are not available for the Civic yet.

the Konis with G/C springs, adjustable perches and K-MAC front camber plates will run around $1850. If I have to give up room for tires, the coilovers better have steel bodies and mounts, be less expensive and more adjustable.

I can get a killer deal on Skunk2 ProCs (I think) I've ran them for R&D in the past on my old EG K20 race car.

I don't think they are worth the money. Pluss I don't want to run coilovers that have Alluminum lower mounts. I've been seeing way to many Strut coilovers fail rescently. I haven't seen Skunk2 Pro-Cs fail but I don't want to be the first to find out if they do fail!

Steel FTW

These guys may be at the top of my list for coilovers: Not sure when they are going to fully release their 06+ Civic coilovers though. I emailed them earlier to find out.
http://progressauto.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=56&products_id=465

they will valve them for different rates and the fronts are rebuildable. Good price on them as well.

I just noticed this but I don't think those progress coilovers are rebound adjustable. They don't mention it in any of their advertisements or catalog. That sucks.. . I guess they aren't worth as much as I thought. Progress still make a good product though. If you have your mind set on certain spring rates and can get adjustable swaybars, I'm sure you can still dial in a descent multipurpose setup.

I haven't seen any adjustable swaybars for our car yet though. ASR should be coming out with 32mm adjustable bar soon though. They say they are in the works.

Thanks,

If yall want to find some STI wheels for cheap, look here Lots with tires around 600-1000 depending on condition. Mine aren't perfect, got some curb rash but I'm fine with it.

be iaght. There are some Subby guys that like the wheels on my car. I likem. will like them more when I get lowered.

the high offset will allow me to run 245s on my car front and rear so that was a big reason I bought them on top of being able to get them for a great deal. Not many rims come in 48+ offsets that you can get for $675 with tires mounted and ballanced.

The rims I really want are 17x8.5 but they cost $400+ a wheel.. . A bit steep for me as I have many other things I'd like to purchase like coilovers, hondata tune, exhaust, TSX brakes.. .

I'm willing to sell my stock Si rims with tires if anyone wants to make an offer on them!

If you were to run 5mm spacers all around, wouldn't you not need to get your hubs machined?

No, the hub lip sticks out like 6mm. I tried using a 5mm and it didn't work.

Also, running 5mm spacers does not give you enough stud to nut thread engagement to be safe. You need enough turns so that the connection will hold torque.

SiR Mikey
12-19-2008, 06:33 PM
Fuck that sucks

I'd run 5mm on stock studs unless the hub on the wheel is thick like my old Sparco's

I'm running 25mm right now
