Anyone has an opinion on how can i finish a car i just painted. Well a couple of weeks ago i painted my GF dd car adn it came out pretty good but the problem is that i dont know how to finish it. Several people have told me that i need to buff it to get a perfect finish but the deal is is that i dont know how to do it. So please give me your opinions or tips.

if you dont know how to do it you'll probably end up scwering it up and burning the paint. have someone who knows what they are doing do it.

if you want to learn do a little research on what you need and practice on an old panel

Personally, I like to cut/buff my paintjobs. I start with a 1500 grit wet sandpaper, and go over the whole car using sanding blocks on all flat surfaces, keeping it wet as possible.

I then move up to 2000, and finally a 3000 grit paper, same process. Then I use a 3M finishing compound available at Space Age Paint Supply in Mesa, and it then comes out like a mirror finish.

I usually let the clear coat harden several weeks before doing these steps for a better result, as it remains quite soft for the first week or so and wont be as brilliant.

You can wet sand a car a couple days after paint, you need 1200, 1500, and 2000 grit sandpaper and the best thing to do is fill a bucket with warm water and add a little detergent put a couple pieces of the sand paper and let it soak about 15 minutes until it curls then use the finest sand paper first all the way to the 1200 and then back up to the 2000.

The paint will look dull and from there you need a buffer not the normal car buffer but an buffer that has decent RMP's, you need a good finish compound and two pads a dense pad for the compound and a soft pad for polishing, I would use a foam pad instead of a wool pad for better results. Remember to run the buffer on low and do not press or you could burn the clear and ruin the paint job let the machine do the work and work in 4 foot sections and don't let the compound dry on you or it can be hard to remove.

When I did mine, I did it the day after it was painted because it was softer. I used warm water mixed with dish soap to wetsand, and then spent 3 days buffing using 3 different compounds (gritty to finest). This was probably 4 years ago though.
