I already did and I will be in the ITR this time.

The EG needs to be driven and some changes tested out again, but that probably wont happen until sometime next year.

Hey I just want to say thanks to Tony, Jeremy, and Tage for helping put on the time attack series this year. Since this was my first time i can see how it can be so addicting. I loved being out there without having to look in my rearview mirror. I did well for my first time ever and that was the icing on the cake for me on Saturday. I felt an accomplishment and know there is a lot more left in this junkyard car. So thanks very much for putting it on and If i still have the car I would love to try again in January. Thanks for letting me have the opportunity to try it out and feel good about the experience.

power to weight!
for example. a car weights 2400 pounds and puts down 150whp on a dyno that would be 2400/150=16.0 which would be in group a (barely) anyre more power or less weight it gets bumped into class b.

there are scales at the track and dyno charts are used to determine power.

such as my car at 2512 with me in it and 139 wheel hp
2512/139= 18.07
in other words, deep in TA-A territory.

2430/132 for me!

If/when I do an official TT PTW, I'll have even less power (if I aim for TT-F and go back to stock intake/header/cat/exhaust/ECU/etc).

I wish i was sandbagging... car with me = 2580 lbs.. dyno only shows 160 hp in a 4th gear pull, could have been higher in 3rd gear but that was all she gave me was 160, well 157 actually.

tuned for liveability not horsepower... Nolan's just mad because he automatically gets classed as a ta-b car with him having an ITR badge ...

Jose, correct me if im wrong, but you drive even less often than I do!

either way 160 on a b20vtec is BS, tuned for longevetity not power? dude these are motors that stock (honda warrenty)((frankenstein aside)) put down 100hp per liter,
if thats all its putting down its got a problemo!

I predict that Simon will be the new TA-A king within the next 1-2 events at PIR. He was close to Durkee this event. Durkee = good but, not going to see improvements at the magnitude that Simon will

Eric's B20 VTEC HP numbers are right. He's got relatively low compression and stock GSR cams.

If/when I do an official TT PTW, I'll have even less power (if I aim for TT-F and go back to stock intake/header/cat/exhaust/ECU/etc).

Yeah, I thought about it and I'd have to undo more than just power stuff to fall back into TT-F. And like you said, being a moving roadblock in TT wouldn't be fun.

I'll eventually head swap to my semi-built B16 head and move up to TT-D but I want to get to TT first and go from there.

Durkee's got another 2 seconds in that car. Minimum.
He's running on my old Yokohama A032's (hard compound). I bought those tires in winter of 2005! (used from an autocrosser in Tucson) I ran them for a year in 2006. Sold them to Craig in 2007. Durkee bros have been using them since then.

New R-comps and an LSD will put Kent in the 13s in that car.

Yikes. Your base class would probably be in the TTC - TTC** range.
You are allowed 20 points worth of mods before you move up in class. Each star is a 7 point penalty. Which means that if you have 2 stars you have that many fewer points that you can accrue before getting bumped up one class.

Depending on what tires, suspension, and few other areas (brakes, aero, gearing, etc.) you could easily have a TT-A car if you're putting down 250whp at the wheels.

FWIW: I am at 2425 with driver and 189whp. I am TTD**
After all my other modification points I am maxed out in TTC.
I have a few lbs. to spare but the car is also pretty close to being maxed out for TA-B.

If you're talking about Kent, he's been on 225/50-14 RA-1's the last 2 PIR events. He went 1.14:6 and 1.15:7 (October and this last event). An LSD will really help him get into the 1.13's. More seat time will help me get into the 1.14's.

bigger IM and TB is just going to lower your midrange. Maybe increase your top end 5-10hp acorss the last 2000 rpms. Not worth it in IMO. A good set of R-comps will be about the same price and will net you better times vs. 10 more HP at the top of your rpm band.

Yeah, no offense Joser but your car doesn't sound like much fun to drive or else I would take you up on the offer to do some TA-A action. IMO, your car needs some 13's!!!

X2 to Gabe's comments on the IM and TB. IMO, they will make the car slower. I'd even go as far as saying they will do absolutely nothing or even create a loose in power. Unless you're running high compressor and/or big cams, more flow through the top end is pointless.

I'll do race group eventually, just doing a very slow build. I'm directing my money elsewhere at the moment, but later next year I should be able to dedicate quite a bit of money back into my car to get it to race specs (full cage, suit, fire system, etc.).

I do have a vtec head I've been thinking of throwin on...i'm working a deal with a bud for the parts...I get nothing new...haha, i think the mani alone would help the cam set up plus the cam gear thats going on would alow for adjustablity, and i'm looking to get 7k outta her all day long......which has been done...

250WHP, my ass...

Oh and with that much power you're obviously doing a turbo on a SOHC or a BSeries so you'd have to email the National rules guy to get rebaseline classed. Paul B. has around 215WHP and 2400-2500# and he's in TTB. At a minimum you'd be TTA and much more likely TTS if you do all the typical Ricky Ricer shit.

P.S. You don't want a fast car for DE1 anyway. If you do and you're slow you'll look lame. It's better to be slow in a slow car because then you have an automatic excuse. Nothing more funny to me watching a stock Honda Civic getting a point by from a Ferrari owner in DE1.

Well my plans were going really well as i had planned for. Get car shell, build car, start trying time attack... everything going according to plan... and i am faster than i have ever been.. then ...... i have to move .. so now on to new things. If i sell the car then i won't be on the track for a long, long time. If i keep it my only real options would be to join SCCA and go for their novice race group. That would be a big jump for me but in Oregon they only run like 5-6 events all year because of the rain. We will have to see. I am really happy with the car and would love to keep it and stay here, hell i got a real high compression b20vtec just dying to be dropped into the beast and would probably be 200whp and 2400 lbs if i take more weight out so i would have to jump into TA-c with a 12:1 ratio or TA-B if i drop just 100 lbs out of it now. I will be looking forward to watch everyone grow and yes we do have a nice new group of hondas and guys progressing very quickly. I have to look back at where i was exactly one year back from the turkey day event... i was starting in DE1 with a 3000 lb 4 door teg on street tires and running really slow around the track. one year later to the date..... time attack in a track car with plenty of room to improve.

It is amazing to see the progress of the new Honda blood.

I remember your 1st day! I believe I was gridded across from you in the garages and I believe I borrowed your tuner lug key for my street car. Good times, good memories...

I'm glad someone found the humor in my post (*most* of it I am just kidding). I had to dish a little back to Kerry after seeing all the crap he dishes out to Simon.

its all good man. i just like giving anyone shit. but simon knows i luv him. lol i know i talk alot but the only real track time i have i broke the engine mount and cooked my brakes by the 5th lap. i felt as if i was over driving the car almost because i was used to something so much different. so this time when i come out i know that all i have to worry about is my driving and im going to push it real hard seein that it wont be my daily anymore.

wish some of you were half as interested in racing as you are in tIm3 attAcKinG!

Says the guy who hasn't raced since '93. :sucker:

I hear alot of the racers knock time attack / time trials. But the reality is that racing is ALOT more expensive than DE. More expensive reg fees. More wear and tear on the car. More prep work to get the car ready for race group.....
Cage ($600-1200), HANS ($700), window nets ($100?), ignition kills, fire suit ($100- $300), harness ($100), seat ($150-$500).
And since most of the Honda guys are trackign their only vehicle they then have to deal with all that crap on their daily driver? :\

Not too mention you're alot more likely to have a small contact in race group than you are in TT which presents a problem if you're tracking your DD. Its not that DE aren't interested, its that I don't think for some of them its very practical.

jeremy im not raggin on lack of racers, its just that it seems as though everyone wants to throw money at thier car, rather that spend the money to drive it..:

Now on the other hand I totally agree with you here. You've got the guys that are waiting till they get _____________ (fill in fast n furious modification here) till they come out on track. :idiot: It seems like those are the guys that would rather have a car with an impressive resume rather than actually take it on track. Make sure everything is safe. Maybe spend $100on some fluid and pads and get the hell out there!!!

you know whats fun?... GOING FAST!
Wanna go faster? GET R COMPS!
no need to rush? y do u set yourself up for this.. you can't be a de2 lifer and you're not going to be competitive in time attack without r comps.
whats the fun in handing over 20 bucks for a time that is going to be slower because you're not dedicating your funds in a way that is conducive to improving track times.
you're dedicating too much time, money, and effort not to be maximizing car/driver potential.

Amen. Couldn't have said it any better.

Joser: you've been driving as long as I have. There's not a whole lot more you're gonna learn on street tires that you would not learn on R-comps. I ran street tires for a couple years, then ran used R-comps for a couple years (which was a huge difference), and this year I bought my first set of brand new R-comps (which was a huge difference over the used ones). Once you feel the geee's of your little teal tank carving a corner on fresh R-rubber you'll be hooked and you're car won't feel so slow anymore. :) :bananaman:  :clapper: :devil1:   :tits:

Wide, sticky tires help with acceleration, cornering, and braking. Engine mods only help for the specific part of the rpm band that they increase you power.....and unless you're adding a significant amount (30+ HP for most Hondas) you're still going to feel like the car is slow. So buy some big fat race rubber, lets all hold hands and sing kumbayah. :)

cost effective? well I'd say you could get a year out of the r comps, and think how much longer your street tires would last.

I call BS!!! I've personally known you a little before Summer and since then I've only seen you on track for maybe a total of maybe 30 minutes at the DeZod West event. Maybe your car magically runs both days at the ProMullet events but it always seems like you have some excuse like the fiberglass in your muffler blew out or the bearings in your steering column need to be greased.

I also disagree with Gabe slightly. Big fat tires aren't good for "acceleration", especially with low HP cars. The additional drag/weight is not worth it for a car like yours. I would recommend 205/50-15 Toyos (vs 225s). I hear they last about a full year or more for most people that track their cars a couple/few times per month. By having R-tires you can buy some cheaper street tires that will last 3-4x longer than Azenis and the overall cost won't be that much more than.

BlueTeg
12-03-2008, 11:48 AM
My statement regarding acceleration was directed at the fact that he could accelerate through a corner faster on R-comps than he would on street tires.

For example: he would be able to accelerate faster through the carosel on R-comps because with his power he could probably flat foot the carosel (assuming he's not WOT now on street tires) as opposed to feathering the throttle on street rubber.

My point was that a proper tire will help him corner harder, brake harder, and accelerate faster (through a corner or slalom, etc.)....as opposed to an engine mod that will give him a negligible amount of power on one side of the rpm band, in exchange for likely lowering power on the opposite end.

I agree that 205/50's would be the better size choice for a car of his weight/power on a 15x7. 225's would be overkill for his power /speed and may be slower (especially if he's only running a 15x7) due to the extra rolling resistance under acceleration and deformation (squirm) of the 'wide' tire on 'skinny' wheel under cornering.

I've run my Nittos at every NASA track day in 2008 + the Dezod day in May at West. I missed one day of the Thanksgiving day event due to being out of state and I missed the night event at Main due to some injector rings pooping out the day of and me not having timem to get new ones and still make it to the track on time. I normally run 3 sessions per day (I usually sit out the last session of the day since I'm not turning a fast time that late in day).
The tires started life at full tread depth (6/32) and I just got to the wear bars (2/32) in the past month or two. I set a PR the first event I slapped them on and just beat that January PR at the October event by a tenth. Like an RA1, they 're just as fast the first day as they are towards the end of the tire's life. I predict that they'll actually be slightly faster now due to less tread squirm (running at shaved tread depth now), and smaller rolling diameter (increased gear ratio) due to wearing nearly 8/10's of an inch of rubber off, and them only being about 12 months old so they're still pretty soft.

Find yourself a used set of R888s, RA1s, NT01s, or other comparable tire for a reasonable price and you'll be driving much faster and not beating the hell out of your sloooow street tires. In the short term it will cost more (simply because you need to buy another set of wheels) but in the long run you'll be faster for not that much more moola.

I 100% agree with this. I bought 4 195/50-15 street tires for $163 shipped to my door. They'll last me at least a couple of years with proper rotation/tire flipping.

I'm into 6 205/50-15 RA-1's for about $650 (all new). With proper rotation/tire swapping/tire flipping, they're going to last me about 2 years (if not longer).

That's about $800. That's less than 3 sets of Azenis cost with more grip and a comparable amount of life (assuming you double-duty the Azenis).

I have a coolant port on the water pipe, 1 on the thermostat housing thats angled about 2 o'clock, 1on the intake manifold, and 1 on the head just under the ECT sensor.

that is very odd. if u have ur old thremo house i might be best to just use that one because u should have 2 things that come out there if u look at my second pic u can see the one from the intake mani going behind the one that is on the thremo housing. idk wut one that is because they should be all straight because the hoses for the header core only come out straight that is something that i have not seen. but ur best thing would be to just switch it to something that u know and know its going to work.
p.s. if u do switch them make sure u get a new oring gasket for the thermo housing to the rear coolant passage that going behind the block to teh water pump.

let me know wut u do.
hope that helped alil?

well this is the same one that I used on my last block...thats why I say its a LS thermo housing. I dont have another one or else I would try it.
Could I theoretically just use that to go to the intake manifold? just like you have with the straight port, but use the angled port instead since its the only one Ive got?

after talking it over with Tony Lisa, I think Im going to cap the big port on the water pipe and cap the port on the head and just connect the ports from the intake manifold to the thermostat housing.
Gotta run to Ace for the rubber caps, but I estimate to be doing a compression test before the initial startup in roughly 2 hours from now.
If something goes terribly wrong I will definitely document it
