friend of mine is getting his gsr to go boost but has a few questions.

1. how many pounds of boost could a gsr hold with 9:1 comp pistons?

2. what kind of pistons and rods?

3. what kind of cams?

now this is going to be a daily driver but also used at the track from time to time.
and i have a question, what would be better a turbo kit with same set up or a 75 shot of nx with stock motor for quarter and DD?

wrong forum, but...
1) it all depends. i know of a stock D17 that ran 24 pounds with no problems. CR has a lot to do with how much boost you can run, but like I said, it all depends. I'm sure somebody in the world has blown a motor on 5 pounds.
2) it all depends on what you want/how much $ you have
3) see number 2

Aftermarket pistons $600

Aftermarket rods $450

Aftermarket cams $450

Reliability = Tune........ It doesn't matter how much you spend if your tune is shitty, Everything at the end of the day comes down to who tuned your car, Joe Sawyer aka Locashracing has made many internally stock Gsr's make 400 whp, mine had 330whp on pump gas but i ran mostly at 8 psi which got me 260 whp and i was able to run 12.8 @ 112.99 which I could still improve. If you click the link on my sig you can see the video. But like i say the tune is very imporant and pistons rods with stock sleeve should be able to give you about 500 whp then you would probably wanna invest in some sleeves.

Rods- Best would be Manley Turbo tuff rods, Crower Rods, Carrilo etc the big boys looking to spend 700 for a set or the alternative is Eagle which could cost about 300 new now.

Pistons- All users choice in what you trust in- Je, Cp, Arias, Rs machine, etc.

00-01 Itr intake, Ctr intake or Skunk 2 Pro Series Stage 1 is best intake cam to use with turbo.

1- USE the search function on this and other web forums........... but since you are too lazy to do your own reasearch let me add t the spoon feeding.

Pump gas...depends on ow much reliability you want... Tuning is VITAL

2- SEARCH FUNCTION...try it
Wiseco's or CP pistons
as for rods..how much power and how much $$$ you want to spend.....Eagle- cheap and seem to work fine, or Crower, or insert favorite rod here.....

3- SEARCH FUNCTION....it works try it!

I have a built GSR with 10:1 compression that I put 30 pounds of boost too. Right now because of a weak clutch and not enough fuel I put down 600whp with 24 pounds of boost.

Sounds like fun. What piston/rod combo you using? Hondata s300?

JE or CP pistions have held up well.
eagle rods with the 3/8" bolt rods are plenty fine for sub 700hp setups
itr ctr cams with good springs/retainers work great
go with 750-1000cc injectors.
hondata/neptune for management (the most important part of any turbo setup is management)
walbro 255lph hp.
TUNE TUNE TUNE.

the turbo needs to be selected by your budget and your optimal end result.
and lastly the amount of boost doesn't matter. it comes down to hp. a small turbo can take 20+psi to make any power vs. a larger turbo which may make the same power at 10psi. and what fuel???

turbo is definately the way to go but a bottle isnt bad either... a lot of guys are against nitrous but a 75 shot and 5psi tuned would be a winning combo. build a kit yourself stuff like that. so many options and if internals are going to be done remember all the gaskets. seals. and other things you might consider while your in there

I am using Eagle Rods, Endyne Roller Wave pistons, and Hondata S300 ecu with boost by gear.
