HPDE1 will still be held but it is through the BMWCCA so you just have to register with them but it's still the same event.

Didn't you already run HPDE1 last event? You should be able to run HPDE2 this event. Who was your instructor and I'll ask if you've been signed off or not.

Joe: sign up for HPDE 2
Talk to Mervin or myself in the driver's meeting for a check ride during the first session to make sure you are good to go for the rest of the day in DE2.

Tage: he missed his first session due to a mechanical DNF. So he only really ran 2 sessions. I noted in his log book that he needs one more session with an instructor in the vehicle before cutting him looose hans solo in 2.

There won't be an admin link anymore. I am going to have one registration link which is the public one. Admins will get a promo code to use when registering so the fees will be the same. The codes will be shared with the respective group leaders and they will share with their staff.

When the groups are full, they are full. If you wait unti the day off, HPDE2/3 will be full already so don't wait. I should have the promo codes out to everyone by early this week.

Also since this is a shared event with BMWCCA we don't have room in the schedule to do all our regular groups and programs. My DRAFT schedule as of this writing has the following downsides:

- HPDE3 only on Saturday
- HPDE2 only on Sunday
- No Time Attack :-(

This is a "draft" and I am looking at all options to get more fit into the schedule but this is where it's at right now. I've got some calls to make to see if we can slice some time off the BMWCCA groups to get some time back but no guarantees.

P.S. I hate to do it, but I have no choice. Just be glad that BMWCCA was willing to share their date with us, because the alternative would be NASA doesn't run at all in the month of March!

get it running and run it period. haven't you had enough problems with cams and bull shit? ITS A RACE CAR IT DOESN'T NEED AN EXHAUST. it was/is a race car its go plenty of suspension.

BlueTeg
02-27-2009, 01:03 PM
What suspension did Merv have on it?
What do you plan to change over to?

It's your car and your money, but I would save the big bucks towards tires rather than a fancy dancy Toda header. You won't see much, if any gains vs. a knockoff long tube tri-Y or even a jdm DC Sports header which are both much cheaper alternatives to the Toda piece that will gain you noticeable gains over the cast iron POS that he had on there.

ILIKETODRIVE
02-27-2009, 03:16 PM
Just put a JDM ITR or replica JDM ITR header on it.

Don't worry about cams...yet.

Don't worry about exhaust...unless you want to be super quiet.

BTW, congrats.

Tage

x3 Craig...

Save your bucks so you can actually afford to RACE the car. If you find your almost competitive then spend some money on go fast engine parts and see if they actually make a difference. For an exhaust, just cut that bitch off under the driver seat. You'll save weight and it will flow more than any aftermarket exhaust.

Yo, register before next week cuz prices go up starting Tuesday evening. Doesn't matter if you're an admin or not...

geeze....I know in the past I went overboard with the CRX, but I already have the type r cams for the motor. As for the suspension, it has K-sports with 1 blown cartridge on the front pass side. I really liked the PIC's, so I was planning on going with those. Exhaust, DONE DEAL....no toda.

TT did not get robbed. Most of the TT group is gone by 2 or 230 on sundays so its pointless to have the 4th session. It has been this way for a while now and works great for most TT'ers.

i see your point.

im sure Tage will see this post. maybe he can make some adjustments to the cost of sunday only registration fees in the future. not sure what his resolution for that will be. the 4th session got dropped about a year and a half ago when we were having 2-4 cars left by that time of day. gave us more time for other items and guests.

Yeah, I see your guys point also. I guess because I'm new to TT I never knew about that.

It sucks big time because I work every other Saturday so it's hit or miss if I can make a Saturday. I can see how TT'ers wouldn't care about the last session drop if they're doing Saturday and Sunday. I wouldn't care either. That still gives you 2 days and 7 sessions to get 2 good laps in (1 each day).

I would appreciate it if you and I could bring this to Tage formally and see about even just a very small discount for Sunday only.

The last session (3rd) on Sunday is still usually really open and has some good open track Simon.

lulz

Just get out there and get through DE1 at least before you even think about something like that.

What if someone does "sponsor" you and you do DE1 and don't like it? Then what? You lie to your sponsor about it and just collect anyways?

I went ou tthere and watch last time, looks exciting. I know im going to be interested in it.

why do you need a sponsor??? You aren't actually racing...HPDE is High Performance Driver Education...........

exactly....

Dude just sign up and run.......

but im still driving on the track right?

When i went ou tthere last time i was talking to the hoosier tire guy and he had recomended his slicks for the race and for the ones i need run 235 a piece.

you will not be racing for at least a year. for the first several events that you participate in, falken rt315 or something similar would be more than enough tire for you. im sure several of the veterans will agree with me on this one. even if you are on street tires, just get out there and drive for now. you will be able to feel when you need to upgrade tires.

seat time is the most important thing for a new driver....you will not be racing until you have completed DE3 and been signed off. I have been doing this off and on since 1996...... and i still haven't stepped up to race group.......

in this day and age most people are sponsored by VISA/MASTECARD..... unless you are a professional.... Look at Tage he just started getting Sponsors last year

If you want to do this you just need to go out and do it......TRUST US when we say most cars are fun to drive on the track stock or even mildly modified...heck there is a lady who runs a Toyta Paseo out there and she has fun....

actually noodles its Azenis RT-615...but yes most Hi Performance street tires will be fine untill the upper levels of experience

When i went ou tthere last time i was talking to the hoosier tire guy and he had recomended his slicks for the race and for the ones i need run 235 a piece.

1.) you don't need race slicks if you've never been on track before. You need seat time. Race slicks cost an arm and a leg, wear out really quick, and cover up mistakes that beginners make. You won't be able to advance through the beginner, intermediate, and advanced driver groups if you only fine tune your machine and not your driving.

2.) do you know how long a set of Hoosiers is 'fast' for? You'll be lucky to get 2 weekends out of them before they start slowing down.

3.) I would never recommend driving a nice set of hoosiers on the street to get to the track. So be prepared to buy a 2nd set of wheels or trailer the car to the event.

To make an analogy out of it: It sounds like you're trying to buy an engagement ring before you even meet the girl you want to propose to. Take her on a few dates to make sure that you like her before you start throwing a bunch of money at her.

Yes.
Actually I would say 90% of the time I am physically there for every day NASA has an event, tor the exception of Thanksgiving and maybe one other random day when something out of ordinary comes up.

The real question is if I will be driving both days. The way my car has been behaving lately I'm lucky to get one full session in. :-/

gabe --

as soon as i replaced the autozone axle with an OEM honda, my issues went away. unfortunately, i destroyed my only OEM axle at the last event. i picked up a set of gator RR axles and they will be in the car for this weekend -- we'll see how they hold up. i'm now convinced that it's not the diff or the suspension geometry of the car causing the fuckups -- the one common element between everyone having axle problems is cheap replacement axles. i actually measured the autozone vs. oem vs. gator and the autozone was shorter by nearly 0.5''.

BlueTeg
03-05-2009, 11:39 AM
Same here. My vatozone axle was shorter by nearly an inch!!

I have a Hasport axle in there now it appears to be the same length as the junky OEM one I have laying around my garage. I think it is a recent design change that Duralast implemented. I've run remanufactured Duralast axles on my car since 2005 with ZERO problems. When they naturually started to wear out from 3+ years of track abuse and cause vibration last summer I had them replaced under Vatozone's vato-tastic lifetime warranty. Apparently they no longer stock the remanufactured Duralast axles anymore so they replaced them with brand new Duralast axles.
The driverside axle popped out three times on track since then (September and November event with me driving and January with Tage driving). I replaced the new driverside axle with another new one in mid January and that one popped out while driving on the street to UMS to get dyno'd.

Lesson: if you're buying cheap axles make sure they're the same length as OEM

Lesson #2: Autozone lifetime warranty FTW. Even though the Autozone axle was a huge PITA for the past 6 months, I took it back to Autozone last night, explained the situation and they refunded the $100 I paid back in 2005 with no questions asked. VATOZONW3D!!!

Good event.

My times were waaay off of my usual but I had 3+ year old RA-1's in the back (and fairly fresh ones in the front). Let's just say I couldn't go flat-out through the oval because the back was stepping out on me crazy easy. Turns 2 and 5 were also pretty fun and kept me on my toes.

TT did not get robbed. Most of the TT group is gone by 2 or 230 on sundays so its pointless to have the 4th session. It has been this way for a while now and works great for most TT'ers.

Keep this in mind too -->

4 sessions @ 15 mins each = 1 hour of track time
3 sessions @ 20 mins each = 1 hour of track time

The problem is if you are trying to "test & tune" and make as many changes as possible in a single day. I don't see the issue from a cost vs track time standpoint though.

Also, it's not necessarily the "standard" to only do 3 sessions on Sunday, it's just what has worked out logistically for the past several events. I will do my best to give everyone 4 sessions but sometimes it doesn't always work out.

I am still playing around with pricing to find the right balance overall and Sunday costing less than Saturday isn't a bad idea.
